Kitchen Cabinets Painted Simply White – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

How’s your week going? Can you believe the Christmas is next week?? I know we can’t! It’s been such a busy season (as it always seems to be with work events, school for the kids, and church events). This year, I was able to be part of the lobby design at our church. We did a couple photo backdrop areas for families to take pictures. Here’s one of those:

Ohhhh… and my beautiful sister in law came for a visit over Thanksgiving so I can show you what it looks like as a backdrop with people! <3

This week, I wanted to share before and after of a kitchen makeover that we painted the cabinets on. Here’s the kitchen before:

We painted the cabinets with Benjamin Moore’s Advanced paint; color Simply White, and sealed it with a water based protective clear coat.

Commercial Lounge Design – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends,

Thank you so much to all of you who enjoyed the Victorian Stroll in downtown Troy on Sunday! We are so thankful for every single one of you for shopping in our store! We think this is the busiest stroll we’ve ever had! I loved getting to visit with each of you and enjoy the spirit of the holidays!

Here’s our little family photo from the day!
Those kids… just so cute to me!

For this week’s makeover, I’m sharing a commercial lounge that we redid for Hometown Healthcare in Clifton Park.

Here’s what it looked like the day I originally met with them:

The biggest change that they wanted was a dividing wall to separate the sitting area from the work spaces for their staff. We built a huge bench wall to give privacy, storage, and more seating to the area.

They also wanted a large buffet to store drinks, garbage, recycling, and add visual interest to the wall.

The furniture was in good shape that they had so we just rearranged it a bit. Here it is after we completed the furniture install that we custom built:

If you have any questions about the custom built furniture in the room or would like to order one for your home/business, use our Contact Us form or check.

We also have furniture available now on our For Sale page. Check out some fun new furniture for sale in our store now:

Antique Carpenters Toolbox Coffee Table For Sale – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

Thank you to those who came out to our Open House and Vendor Market on Monday night. The turnout was small because of the huge snow storm, but we had a great time with those brave souls who made their way here. Please keep in mind that this Sunday is Troy’s Victorian Stroll! Another fun day in downtown Troy with something to do for everyone! Here’s our family picture from last year at the Victorian Stroll!

We also just finished our window displays and you can vote for them on the Victorians Stroll’s Facebook page.

For this week’s post, I wanted to share a new makeover that we finished for FunCycled. It’s an antique carpenters trunk that we added wheels to create a rustic coffee table. Here it is before:

We painted it Black by Benjamin Moore, heavily distressed it, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat so you can put your cups right on it!

Antique Dresser and Commode… that’s right

Hi Friends!

Happy early Thanksgiving! Isn’t it easy to let the hectic holiday seasons rob us of our joy and distract us from the practice of being thankful? I know it’s often that way for me. So, I’m reminding you (because I need to remind myself) that taking time on Thursday to voice our thankfulness for all that God has blessed us with is good for the heart and mind. It’s good every day of course, but let’s take the time this Thanksgiving to share our gratitude with friends. We go around the table and everyone says something they are thankful for before we eat. It’s beautiful to hear the span of gratitude from a 4 year old to a 64 year old. It’s a comfort in the stressful seasons to remember the sweeter seasons and know… this too shall pass. John and I are both committed to not working on Thanksgiving and practicing the mental discipline of setting aside the hectic work week and all that we COULD be doing to be mentally present with our family. Take time to really listen to their lives, play games, laugh together, sing together. We are praying for this to be what Thanksgiving looks like this year; a joyful, restful, day filled with genuine thanksgiving. I pray that you’ll enjoy a day like that, too!

Also, remember this Monday, we’ll be hosting our holiday Market and Vendor Show.

Get your tickets here: Repurpose Idea House Open House and Holiday Market

For this week’s furniture makeover, I wanted to share with you the makeover of dresser and commode… that’s right an antique commode! lol Jennifer reached out to us to see if we’d be interested in her mother’s furniture. I loved these pieces right away.

Here they are before:

We painted it Benjamin Moore’s Black, lightly distressed it, added new hardware, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat.

If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post.
Ready for the transformation???

I loved the dresser so much that I kept it, but I couldn’t fit the commode. So… the poopers can be all yours. 😂 This piece sold online the day it was posted,  but you can check out even more new pieces on our For Sale page.

Creamy White China Cabinet Makeover – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

We had a wonderful Veteran’s Day weekend celebrating those who have served our country in historical, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. We have so much to be thankful for in the USA; we have come so far, and we need to forever press into the heart of patriotism that wants our country to become even greater. By greater, I mean not only stronger, but wiser. Not only more vigilant, but also more caring to our neighbors. To fight when it’s necessaries, but to also learn from our mistakes – slavery, oppression of women, and much more. This weekend, we thanked those who have sacrificed so much in pursuit of our freedom, but I also wanted to officially thank them here. We are forever indebted to your bravery and sacrifices.

Kitchen Cabinet Painted Cliffside Gray – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

How are you? I’m going to share some more posts about this later, but we started decorating our house for Christmas early to get ready for the open house on December 2nd! Did you get your tickets yet? Remember the tickets are free and you can register here: Holiday Party.

For this week’s makeover, we wanted to show you how we painted oak kitchen cabinets for Nancy in Amsterdam and it completely transformed her kitchen. Here’s the kitchen before:

We painted the cabinets with Benjamin Moore’s Advanced paint; color Cliffside Gray HC-180, sealed it with a water based protective clear coat, and added new hardware.

Ready for the afters?

Installed new hood vent.

You can use our Contact Us form or check out other kitchen projects on our For Sale page. We’ll need to see a picture of your kitchen, a list of how many doors and drawers there are, and where you are located to email you an estimate. This change ups the value of your home and gives you a whole new look at a fraction of the cost of new kitchen cabinets!

Commercial Reception Desk Makeover – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope you’re having a great week! I was down in Atlanta last week with my friend Marcie. Her son had a liver transplant 3 years ago and was back at the transplant center for his 3 year check up. It was so sweet to see how well he’s doing and catch up with Marcie again. I even had a chance to visit with my sweet friends Alexis and Stephanie, too!

We took a walk in the park outside the Ronald McDonald house and took a picture of Asher in the same spot… three years later.

So thankful for the gift of a healthy life for him! He’s such a joy to be around! Marcie and I can do absolutely nothing and have the best time, too!

For this week’s Tuesday’s Treasures, I wanted to share a recent commercial design job we’ve been working on for Hometown Healthcare. Part of the design job included redoing the desk in the reception area and building a custom sign with their logo. This isn’t a great picture, but you can get an idea of what the desk and reception area looked like before:

They liked the set up of the reception desk, but it needed a facelift. So we added plywood, a wood strip, and their logo on the front. We also added a new matching work area for the staff that better fit their needs. Here are some of the afters of the desk area:

New desk surround, chairs, and sign.

We also custom built the sign on the wall and worked with Vital Signs in Cohoes for the cut letters. We built the background and installed the letters on the sign.

A huge thank you to Shelly and Casey for choosing FunCycled for this project. We so enjoyed working together!

We have lots of new Christmas and Thanksgiving decor in the store, please be sure to stop by and check it! We also announced on Facebook that we’ll be having an open house and vendor market at our home on December 2nd from 5-9pm. If you’d like to attend, head to our event on Eventbrite and get your free tickets. We are asking for tickets this year to know how many to plan for and there is a limited amount due to the size of our house so the sooner you can head over there to get them, the better.

In addition to the adorable home decor at our store, you can also check out even more new furniture available on our For Sale page.

Antique Buffet Makeover – For Sale

Hi Friends!

Thank you all for your sweet notes and comments about our kitchen makeover that we shared on the blog last week! It was so nice of all of you!

This week was filled with wonderful times with friends! From breakfast, lunch and dinner outings most days, I felt like one blessed lady! I also was able to go on a day trip with my bestie to NYC! We enjoyed the designs and food throughout the city!

The High Line by Chelsea Market

La Mercerie 53 Howard St, New York, NY 10013

This week, I want to share a makeover from a piece that we bought over a year ago! We bought it from a couple who said it was part of their grandparents bedroom set. It was in their basement since 1980 and needed a lot of work. We’ve been slowly repairing it over time. A couple times, I heard the words “burn it” come out of my mouth, but John was confident he could bring it back to life again! Boy was he right! Here it was before:

They found the glass piece to it and we were able to add that to the back.

We painted it Benjamin Moore’s Chelsea Gray, heavily distressed it, added new hardware, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat.

If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post.

This dresser/buffet is available to purchase! You can also check out even more new pieces on our For Sale page.

Repurposed Idea House – Kitchen Makeover

Hi Friends!!

Yesterday, I turned 36! I don’t need any big parties, but I do love to celebrate the whole month long. Not because I think I’m worth it, but because I have so much to be grateful for. My family, my love, many beautiful friendships, my Savior. Life is sweet, and busy, and full of fun adventures. I wouldn’t want it any other way! 💕Thanks to all of you who have sent business our way over the last almost 8 years! Thanks to the many customers who’ve become such sweet friends. Thanks to all of you, I’m doing what I love to do every day. Using the gifts I feel like I was made to use. For all that and so much more, I want you all to know how grateful I am for another year of life and for another year with YOU. 💕

We’ve been working on redoing the kitchen in our house for the last 4-5 months and are so excited to share the before and afters with you!!! YAY! I hope they take your breath away because being in it every day takes mine away. This isn’t about just making a pretty space for us, it’s about families gathered all around as we make memories, grow closer to each other, and enjoy the art of cooking. John has a culinary arts degree so a nice kitchen is really important to him. He’s been smiling so big since the day it was done and we had our first family over for dinner. Yes, we had company the very first night it was done!! We 💕 friends and family!

Here’s the kitchen before:

Kitchen Before
Kitchen Before
Kitchen Before

There were so many changes… where to start??

  1. Bought all repurposed cabinets and John built some of the doors to match others (we couldn’t find all the same matching cabinets). We went with maple cabinets though.
  2. Custom built the island and installed the sink and dishwasher by the island.
  3. Installed a stove and hood vents on the exterior wall.
  4. Refinished the floors back to their original beauty.
  5. Painted the walls, wainscoting, and ceiling Simply White by Benjamin Moore.
  6. Installed subway tile all the way to the ceiling and black grout.
  7. Painted one radiator black and one gold.
  8. Installed new light fixtures.
  9. Kept the original wallpaper that was behind a shelf and painted around it, then added a floating shelf above it to make it a focal point in the room.
  10. Installed a pot filler above the stove.
  11. Picked Quartz counter for the island and soap stone for the rest of the counters.
