Hi friends!

I am excited to share this post with you because it includes several of the top paint companies and the paint colors they have deems as “The Color of the Year for 2025!” Typically, these colors are determined each fall, beginning as early as September each year and emerge through December. Anticipating new colors and ideas gives a sort of energy to the design world, and for me and so many others, this energy drives us and helps us continue to grow as creative people!

In this post, I will be sharing the 2025 Colors of the Year as announced by five of the most influential paint companies (listed below) as well as the 2025 Color as deemed by Pantone (which for those who may not know, Pantone is a little different from paint companies. Pantone is a company that works to define a universal language and color system which informs and unites industries that use color.

#1 Sherwin Williams: Quietude- HGSW6212 

Description

It may not surprise you, but this is a color that could easily be used pretty much anywhere in your home, and the outcome would be beautiful. But, we are encouraging you to be a little more considerate and intentional about where and how to play around with this color (even in its quietness!) Using it on walls in a bedroom or bathroom next to warm earth tones or as an accent color on a kitchen island in a warm white kitchen will add just the right amount of depth and character while maintaining a gentle elegance in your home.

The color is all about comfort and quiet luxury and global connection! NOTE, the Pantone color is different than a paint color. The Pantone Color Matching System (PMS) is part of the Pantone company which is a company that works to define a universal language and color system which informs and unites industries that use color.This includes Fashion, Product design, Graphic design, Lifestyle, Textiles, Beauty, Interiors, and Architectural and industrial design.

Pantone further describes this color as follows: “PANTONE 17-1230 “Mocha Mousse, a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”

Since this color is different than a paint color, I like to recommend it for other uses beyond paint. True, I could easily suggest some paint colors that align with the richness of the Mocha Mousse, but I am excited to share some other ways to incorporate this color into your home. Given the sense of luxury and comfort the color elicits, I suggest incorporating this into your home with textiles.

Hi Friends!

We recently spent time with one of our clients whose kitchen was not only stuck in the past, it was not the most functional, and our clients knew they needed a change! From freshly painted cabinets & new hardware to new counters, adding backsplash and helping to customize their island (the wow factor at the end!), our clients made the most of everything, and the outcome is AMAZING!

Take a look at the before photos. The kitchen has a decent amount of storage, but the layout of the cabinets was not ideal. These cabinets were outdated and needed new life, and the shelf below the small high up cabinets was not functional, so we needed to make sure that was corrected!

First, we took these tired, oak cabinets and painted them in Benjamin Moore Simply White (a perfect go-to) and added new hardware. We also replaced the microwave shelf and small uppers with a full sized new upper cabinet for more storage. Then we installed backsplash and new counters. This quartz counter is durable and beautiful, and the tile selection is such a great complement to the refreshed island!

Next, we moved on to the kitchen island. To really make this island stand out, we added shiplap around the base, painted it in Benjamin Moore’s Smokestack Gray and installed a beautiful farmhouse sink (AKA apron sink) with a coordinating faucet.

To complete the room, we added board and batten, then our client painted it Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, around the room to add texture and timeless character to the space.

If you’ve with me long enough you know that to really finish a space you have to consider all of the details, and that is just exactly what we did with this kitchen makeover! It is beautiful! Check out some final pictures!

Happy New Year’s Friends!

I really wanted to share all the highlights of the year with you on today’s blog post, but I simply didn’t make the time to get that done last week. After the last couple of months, pushing to finish up our first ever house flip while also keeping the normal work flow up, we are the more exhausted than we’ve ever been! We all needed a week to rest, do house project that have been neglected (who needs to clean out their summer clothes anyway), and pray over/plan out the next year. We are so thankful for the rest, and hope to share some of the highlights of 2023 in the weeks to come!

We closed on the trolley house the week before Christmas, and we are so excited for the new home owner to spend the holidays in this little slice of history that we poured so much of ourselves into!

For this week’s makeover, I thought it would be fun to share the living room makeover!

Here’s the living room when we started:

See those tiny steps? Those aren’t up to new building code so we had to work with the building department to let us keep them. When I came to look at the house, those little steps were what my eyes were drawn to on the inside. I loved them! The other thing that wasn’t to new code was the windows. They came too close to the floor so we did have to replace them all. I was sad about that because they were in good shape and beautiful, but the new windows were much more energy efficient so it was an ok trade off!

We were also able to keep the flooring. We refinished it, and it was painted over so that was no easy task. See those bowling pins and that hutch base? We used both to decorate in the house. The hutch is on the main page of our website right now!

Hi Friends!

How was your week? We had a wonderful week playing catch up on normal life, and also going away for the long weekend to Jean Stoffer’s Open House! It was such a fun experience! I loved seeing her home in real life, and getting to talk with her, her designers, family, and friends!

For this week’s makeover, I’m thrilled to share one of my favorite room makeovers in our Historic Trolley House Flip. The bathroom was a major project because it needed almost everything replaced. We replaced the subfloor, window, installed all new plumbing and electric, and then all of the finishes of course.

One big mistake was the style shower I chose and the placement. Because I went with a corner unit in this tight space, the only slider door that would work on this shower cost almost $2,000! It’s a thing of beautiful, but not in the budget we had in mind.

I don’t want my silence during this last week to be seen as apathy. I’ve had more words to say than I know what to do with and at the same time I don’t want to say the wrong thing.

I weep for those who weep. Black lives matter. What was done last week to George Floyd was horrible; racism is real and unacceptable. I’m a privileged white American who grew up being taught that color makes no difference. I believed racism was a thing of the past, but I’m learning more and more every day that it’s not. To my brothers and sisters who have a different skin color than I do, I’m sorry for being ignorant to your pain for so long. I won’t be able to ever truly understand all that you go through. I’m listening, and learning, and trying to grow to change the narrative. I love you.

This isn’t about white versus black. This is about everyone versus racists.

To those in law enforcement, my heart aches for you, too. There are many good people that get lumped in with the corrupt. You watched that video of George Floyd and were sickened and outraged just like most of this nation. I love you.

To the small business owners who’ve tried to stay afloat these last 3 months and have a glimmer of hope with opening back up, my heart hurts for you, too. I know these riots are damaging your livelihood. I know damage to property isn’t important compared to life, but I know it still hurts. I love you. I am one of you.

Let’s do our part to educate ourselves, to listen, to love, to pray, and change this world for the better!

I keep coming back to this verse over and over again: “When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalms 61:2

When we are confused, hurt or faint, we must remind ourselves that God is our rock. Love should be our anthem.

As always, I like to share a before and after makeover each week. I did an interior design project for Christine a while back and we were just able to do the work on the project for her. Here’s the bathroom before:

We added board and batten to the bottom half of the room. They had slate tile installed throughout the main area of their first floor. Then my mom installed the wallpaper on the top half of the walls. We took the existing vanity and painted it BM Sweet Daphne (BM 529), glazed it, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat.

We also picked out a new mirror and light for this space! I couldn’t love it more and I couldn’t love working Christine more! The board and batten were painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore.

The time has come to share our most popular posts in 2017! These are chosen from the Tuesdays Treasures posts of 2017 not all of our posts. This is one of my favorite things to look back on and remember all of the projects in the last year!

1. Kitchen Makeovers

Toping the chart are our Kitchen Projects this year! That seems fitting because we’ve done so many kitchen transformations this year! Check out a few of them on our Kitchen Projects page. Here’s my favorite kitchen makeover this year – my own kitchen!

2. Interior Design for a Troy Fireman

I love that this also topped the charts because it shows how much interior design has grown for us this past year. I’ve had the privilege of working in so many of your homes and helping you create a comfortable place that makes you proud to have others visit.

3. Mid Century Hutch

I was a little surprised at this one! This hutch is adorable but it took a long time to sell in our store! Thanks to everyone who loved it!

4. Tips about going to Magnolia Market

Again, love that this toped the charts because it was a highlight of my year. A dream come true really! Getting to go to one of my bucket list spots with my husband was such a blessing.

5. Transitional Interior Design

This was another beautiful interior design project that included custom furniture that we built or repurposed as well as interior design for two rooms!

6. How to Update a Cedar Trunk

Again, this one surprised me just because I kind of forgot about it. I do love a good cedar trunk makeover and apparently you guys do too!

7. Beige China Cabinet Makeover

This is a newer piece and I absolutely love it! The good news? It’s still available to purchase here.

8. Chic Teal and Gray Dining Room

I was so excited to see this one, too, because it included interior design and furniture. The dining room set that we repurposed was so stunning! Head over and check it out!

9. Sea Foam Desk/Dresser

This piece is so unique and really beautiful. I’ve had it for a bit and am surprised it hasn’t sold! I love how it turned out! You can purchase it here.

10. Ugly Dresser Turned Into a Hutch

This was another very special project to me so I was giddy to see that it made the top 10! A really, really, really ugly dresser that we turned into a hutch!

Thank you to all the wonderful people who made this year really special for us! You come out and shop local which makes what we do possible.  We never want to take that for granted!

This week’s basement makeover has a very special place in my heart. Not only was it our first ever basement renovation, but it also has a wonderful backstory. Will and Jaimie called me in February asking me to come for a design consult. When I got to their house, I asked what their budget was and they said $0. Why would someone hire me when they have no money to redo the space? Well, they wanted a design goal to know how to save. That is actually really smart! People often purchase things within their budget that don’t work for their space to save money. Jaimie and Will were doing the opposite, they wanted to know what would be good and right as the first step so they didn’t waste any time or money. I came up with a design and they came back loving it and letting me know they would save monthly until they could do it one piece and one project at a time. Here’s the basement before:

That sounded like a sensible and smart plan to me and I was thrilled that they liked the design. Fast forward about a month… their sub pump somehow got unplugged and their basement completely flooded. Up to where the sheetrock was cut in the pictures above. I felt so bad for them because insurance covered nothing!!

About a week after they told me about the flooding, someone asked to speak with me because they had heard we had done a design plan for Jaimie and Will. They told us that they wanted to pay to have their basement redone under two conditions: 1) it remained anonymous 2) we did all the work. WOW!!! Big big WOW! I couldn’t even believe what my ears were hearing. To do something so kind and so expensive without wanting any recognition at all and wanting to support a small business… it was the knock-my-socks-off kind of amazing. They said God blessed them and they wanted to bless others! Little did they know that the day before they told me this, I had hired an assistant and was asking God how we were going to swing it financially. This moment for me spoke truth. He will provide if it’s what He wants. Nothing is too hard or too much for God if He’s directing. It gave me such encouragement and strengthened my faith in so many ways.

We went to work! First things first… make a mess!

I helped pick out the flooring color but Jaimie and Will did the installation of the laminate flooring. Originally, we were going to paint the concrete to save money, but a family member donated the flooring so Jaimie could get the flooring she so badly wanted!!

We ripped more of the sheetrock up so we could install the wood on the bottom half of the walls. We used rough cut wood that we lightly sanded and sprayed with grays and whites to give different tones throughout the space.

They already owned the entertainment center and coffee table but we painted them white and added an end stand to the design. Then we used barn board to encase the poles and beam in the basement to add texture and age to the room.

They have limited storage in their house so they wanted to add as much hidden storage as possible. We closed off one closet with a single sliding door.

Then we turned the whole back section into a closet. The right barn door is stationary, just working as a wall but looks like a sliding barn door. The second barn door slides in front of the stationary door to get into the closest. Swoon! 

We also repurposed a hutch for the space! You can read all about that transformation here.

Also, Jaimie is short and adorable! For her job, she needs to use a pedal with her computer. She hasn’t had a work set up so where she can touch the floor. She needed to sit at the end of her couch and have a laptop on her lap so she could reach the pedal. Oh no no! That just won’t do!!! Not in my opinion at least! After 2 hours of searching, I found a chair that would fit the length of her legs. Then we customized this desk for her:

We cut the sides off and extended it out to 6 feet so she had enough room to work on the top but also had storage space on either side. I didn’t get a good “after” picture of this piece but you can see it here:

I didn’t want to waste the old desk top so I repurposed it into an art display station for her kids artwork. Can you see it in the back left of this picture?

Let’s not forget about the cute little electrical outlet door that we made to look like a tiny barn door. Awwwweee!

Then a friend from church heard about the project we were working on and asked to go with me to help pick out decorations for the space and she paid for it all! Talk about blessing after blessing!

I usually show you before and after of furniture makeovers on the blog, but today I thought I’d mix it up a bit and show you an interior design job. I’ve been working on this project with Noreen since November. Design takes time and I’ve so enjoyed working with Noreen during these past few months. She trusted me on some decisions she wasn’t sure about and also was willing to make adjustments that made a huge impact on the final look

Here’s the dining room before:

Unfortunately, I’m not giving away all of the info about the chosen designs simply because it takes a lot of time and research to come up with wall colors and find products, that’s why you should hire me to help you. :) I did want to step you through how it works and also give you some visuals for those who want to do the research yourselves.

When I looked at the dining room (the room with the rug), I loved the rug but knew it needed to be bigger to anchor the space. Noreen returned it and upgraded to the next size up.

Here’s the design board for her room:

As you walk into the room, your eyes wanted to go to the far wall, but it was lacking in wow factor. I wanted to make the room feel like it kept going so I went with a dark blue/gray/teal color and then changed the other three walls to a warm, brown friendly gray.

I so badly wanted Noreen to get a hutch for the large wall because I knew that would send this design out of the park! I took a risk and bought this hutch without Noreen knowing and practically begged her to buy it for the space. :) She did and I’m so glad!!
