One of my favorite things is to share my favorite vintage finds with our guests as soon as they walk into our home. In our Repurposed Idea House, we have the pleasure of greeting friends and family with treasured finds which tell of the cherished moments we have had as a family!

I love greeting guests with vintage finds and custom artwork as soon as they walk in! 

Family Room

If you walk through the doorway that sits just to the right of the mustard yellow vanity in our entryway, you will enter the family room and adjoining dining room area.

Comfy and no fuss - that’s the kind of family room I love!

Dining Room

One thing we needed to consider with our dining area is that the space was very open but because of the layout and placement of the doors, we needed a long and narrow table. So, my husband, John, built this custom table to fit the room exactly. We often think of creating built -ins for our homes, but making custom fitting furniture items is not a usual go-to when we are planning out the room, but it can make such a huge difference!

I love that this room is so open so it sparks conversation between kids and adults! 

Living Room

As can often be the case, the flow of the room can be interrupted by the need to create a walkway or to account for an area for a pass through. I have a few of these areas in my home, but I think the most frequently passed through area in our home is walking through the living room to the kitchen.

Elevated design and a couch to last for years is a must in my formal living room space. 

Kitchen

Like so many of us, my kitchen is a major hub for my home. Because of this, it is so important that I created a space with good flow and could accommodate the daily needs of my family as well as times for hosting guests. The kitchen serves so many practical needs, but I also wanted to create a space that was filled with warmth and style.

Dark colors in a bright kitchen brings such warmth and beauty to the room!

Lighting has always been essential for function, but in 2026 it’s evolving into something far more exciting, and something that is long overdue! In the months ahead, we will begin to see lighting become more of an art form in our spaces. Fixtures are stepping into the spotlight as sculptural pieces that anchor a space and spark conversation. For years, lighting has played a supporting role. But in the coming season, fixtures will serve as sculptural expressions and pieces of art that elevate a room. Think of a wall sconce that mimics seashell curves or a pendant with glass that ripples like water. These pieces don’t just brighten a room; they define it.

A favorite example is this curved wall sconce from Lulu and Georgia, which captures the elegance of coastal shapes while adding a warm glow. It’s proof that lighting can blur the line between utility and artistry. Its curvature suggests both an organic and natural feel that mimics the shape of a seashell while providing an interesting architectural element to the wall. Together, a room would feel curated and personal.

I predict we’ll see:

• Integrated LED mirrors that go beyond the basic glow.
• High-shine metals – not just chrome, but polished copper, brass, and mixed finishes.
• Playful shapes that make bathroom lighting part of the design, not an afterthought.
• Reimagined vanity lights – not just your typical bar, but one that expresses art and design.

These two examples could be used in place of your traditional vanity bar or even hung vertically as elongated wall sconces for a unique side glow.

You might be scratching your head wondering how blues and greens can fall into the neutral color category. Here’s how: Many neutrals (beiges, grays, and whites) actually do have a blue or green undertone. And when paired with muted hues with a more saturated green or blue base, you can add depth and dimension to lift and complement your neutral decor. Plus, soft blues and greens are known for promoting peace and harmony, a key ingredient for creating a neutral space! These two colors actually fall into the Gray category, but as you can see each takes on an identifiable blue or green hue.

Mantel Styling that Supports Stillness and Serenity

We wanted to create an example of a neutral

• Keep mantel decor minimal and meaningful—fewer items allow each piece to breathe.
• Choose natural textures (ceramic, wood, woven baskets) over bold or shiny finishes.
• Layer in soft greenery or dried botanicals for a soothing organic touch.
• Art or photography with gentle lines or calming themes reinforces stillness.
• Stick with tonal variations of white, tan, or warm wood to maintain a quiet palette.

Design Elements that Quiet a Space—Without Making It Boring

There are some common misconceptions about using neutrals in your home. One of the biggest is the assumption that using neutral colors only will lead to a boring outcome, leaving the home feeling bland and devoid personality. Unfortunately this can be exactly the outcome if the design remains one dimensional. A quality design will encompass mixed textures, consider scale & balance, and focus on the whole room, not just one section. So as you plan the design for your mantle, be mindful of the whole room. Here are some tips to

• Contrast texture instead of color: mixing wood with soft knits & smooth ceramics with woven baskets add dimension.
• Add in subtle color variation: off-whites, taupes, and soft gray-greens keep the palette interesting.
• Keep symmetry in mind: with centered decor, try offering gentle “end caps” in the form of similarly sized objects to keep a sense of balance.
• Integrate soft ambient lighting: using candles and low lighting instead of overhead lights.
• Bring in natural elements: stone, wicker, linen, and cotton echo the peace and presence of the outdoors.

Well, ‘outdoor kitchen ideas’ is certainly a broad topic, but definitely worth exploring! No matter the time of year, it seems likely that our minds are ever wishful for springtime. And it seems that even with the faintest glimpse of spring emerging, we begin to feel the outdoors beckoning us. But what if you don’t have the kind of space that allows you to really enjoy the outdoors? You may feel like you are missing out.

My suggestion is always to find ways to maximize what you have and use that place as a jumping point for something new! For example, if you have an existing shed (or are planning to get one), adding an outdoor kitchen or kitchenette to the design is a great way to capitalize on what you already have and enhances a simple space for relaxation and entertainment! Ready to be inspired? Let’s dive in!

The Basics: Outdoor Kitchen in a Shed

True, not all sheds are equal in size, but a common denominator among them (when given the right impetus) is that ALL have the potential to be transformed into additional living space right in your own yard! Using this additional space for a small (or even large, depending upon your shed) kitchen is a great option, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Let me answer some basic questions to get things moving!

Rustic Charm Meets Functionality in Shed Kitchens

The concept I have created is exactly this – rustic and functional. You can see in my inspiration photo that this shed design is really outfitted with a kitchenette – sink, prep space, dishes, and simple storage for the main kitchen essentials. Depending upon your own wishes, budget, and space, you could easily add a small to medium refrigerator under the counter or on an opposite wall. Additionally, if you have the space and proper ventilation, you could easily add a cooktop or even a range.

While your idea may be sparked by an image you see, the next step is to begin fanning that spark and flaming the idea into a plan. Here is a quick guide to get you going:

• Decide what you want – are you looking to have a space for cold beverages and quick snacks? What type of surface will you need – prepping food, cutting flowers? What items will need to be stored? Are there colors that you want to use?
• Make a (preliminary) design plan – now that you have a focused idea of what you want, take a few minutes to get a basic design plan together. This should include a rough layout and maybe some color ideas.
• Measure your space – after assessing what you want, it’s time to gather the measurements, so you can begin compiling your plan.
• Start sourcing – begin to source the materials you will need and contact any professionals who might be needed to complete the project.

I love incorporating natural elements into all of my designs! And even though your shed is already outdoors, here are a few ways to level up nature into this design!

• Add linen or cotton cafe curtains to a window. This will add charm and echos the beauty of the natural setting!
• Plant a container garden just outside the shed. Having fresh herbs, veggies, or fruits ready to go for quick snacking and prepping will save time, plus it adds a touch of color!

Hi, friends!

Well, my guess is that in a few short weeks, many of us will be hosting people for Thanksgiving Day. I am not sure about you, but I have often found that this holiday is sometimes glossed over, being sandwiched between a growing emergence of halloween and harvest festivities and an earlier and earlier onset for Christmas prep! All good things mind you, but they don’t exactly carve out the right tenor and tone for as special a holiday as Thanksgiving. After all, if there is one attitude in life we should all be pursuant of it’s an attitude of thanks.

I think it’s important to create a space that draws people in and allows them to gather and be grateful together! To do this, I like to create a warm & welcoming atmosphere that has a few touches of nostalgia for my holiday gatherings.

LAYER THREE: Create the Perfect Centerpiece

Start with something large for the middle. I like to start with something vintage, like a vintage pitcher or vase and add fresh flowers or even dried florals. Adding touches of mercury glass or faux dried stems will help create this effect if you don’t have something readily available.

STEP FOUR: Time to Give Thanks

Set aside some time to remind your guests why everyone is gathered on this day. Here are some ways to do this:

• Leave a personal note of thanks to each guest.
• Add special quotes about gratitude and thankfulness at each place setting.
• Provide a prompting question at each guest’s plate & then ask quests to share their responses with the table.

Notes and messages could be added to a napkin ring or out of a personalized cornucopia stuffed with greenery or even lined with parchment paper and filled with a small fruit salad. Have fun with this and make it your own!
