Hi friends!

I just love this time of year! The longer days and refreshing spring breeze make my heart smile!

In today’s Tuesday’s Treasure, I want to share the story of how one gift between sisters helped preserve a piece of history for their family!

I first met Patti by phone and we exchanged some quick information about the buffet she was hoping to have painted in the hopes of refurbishing it and making it work better in her new home in the Capital District. After seeing a picture of the buffet, I had a few ideas, but I was eager to meet with Patti and see what her vision might be!

When Patti came to the FunCycled studio to meet and make selections, two other ladies accompanied her. With bright smiles, the three ladies introduced themselves. I now learned Patti had brought her sister and daughter to help make selections for this special piece. (I love when clients bring trusted advisors with them!) In just a short amount of time, I came to learn the the buffet had belonged to Patti’s parents, and her sister wanted to ensure the buffet joined Patti as she had recently moved into a new home and was establishing her new home in the Capital Region. What a special thing! The only challenge, the buffet had experienced some wear and tear over the years and was stained much too dark for the new space Patti was now living!

Take a look at this before photo. This buffet looks a little forlorn!

It might be hard to see but there are some scratches along the bottom and some fading and scratching on the top. All things Patti was hoping to remedy. As we began to talk about this piece of furniture, how it would be used, what other colors were in the room, as well as the overall vision Patti desired, it became clear that if we were able to, we should plan to refinish the top of the buffet and paint the bottom. It would be the perfect way to refresh and update the buffet while honoring its history and preserving to remain a piece that could be part of Patti’s new home!

Memory Lane

In 2012, my husband John and I saw an opportunity to share our passion and know how for furniture flipping! I have always been creative, and I found this creativity to really take flight when I found moments to restore something broken or unused by refreshing it, repurposing it, and transforming into a new treasure! Check out some pics from back in the day!

This collection comes with a larger piece which could be used as a dresser or even a buffet or sideboard as well as two side tables for night stands or even end tables for a living room! Also check out that before photo!

Check out some close ups and details of this collection! The double stripe and black and gold hardware add a touch of flair and I can’t get over how much I love the retractable doors the open to additional storage! LOVE!!

Each piece has been painted in Benjamin Moore’s Steam and stained with a mix of gray and brown stains that I had on hand–sometimes that just the perfect shade!

Happy first day of Spring! Sometimes we are tempted to think it will never come, especially after a cold and snow-filled Winter (which we have not had), but here it is! Spring has arrived!

In today’s Tuesday’s Treasure, I want to share some inspiration for all of us as we transition from Winter to Spring.

Colors for Spring

At this point in the year, most of us are ready for something a little brighter in our homes. Check out these Spring inspired pieces of furniture we have been able to complete over the years!

Choosing the Right Color

With so many choices, it can be hard to know the how to make the right selection. To add a touch of Spring, I suggest choosing colors that are light and bright and remind you of what is happening outside as Spring arrives. Because the full bloom of colors doesn’t typically arrive until May and June in Upstate New York, I like to introduce greens and blues along with shades of white and gray. But you can also select other pastel colors to add a touch of color while still feeling bright and airy! Here are a few tips for making the selection for you:

• Keep in mind the style of the piece of furniture and what type of hardware it has or will have if you plan to change it.
• Consider what other colors you have in your space. Remember, they don’t have to be an exact match, but they should coordinate.
• If this is a new color you would like to introduce to your home, make sure to add a few other touches of that same color around the room.
• Take note of a bigger vision you have for the space, keeping in mind this might be a first step toward that vision!

Ways to Style

This is where you get to have a lot of fun! A “go to” item for me is styling with books! They add height, texture, and interest. Or grab a vase or pretty glass bottle in a bright or complementary color and add fresh greens. Depending upon your style and what you love, use the surface to display a special heirloom or antique, like this vintage camera atop the beautiful teal and gray-washed credenza.

Hi Friends!

How was your weekend? We had a wonderful weekend here full of friends and Christmas festivities. I’m excited to share this buffet makeover because I always love this style buffet once it’s redone.

We painted the whole piece with Valspar’s Lincoln Cottage Black, gave it a medium distressing, and added new hardware.

Hi Friends!

Why would we redo a newer piece of furniture? Well, even if furniture isn’t old, if it doesn’t work stylistically anymore, I’d rather have a client redo it instead of just buying new piece whenever possible. This is a perfect example of that!

Hi Friends!

I hope you had a nice weekend! We had a jam packed weekend with Harmony playing Grace in the musical Annie Jr at school! She did such an amazing job! We are so proud of her. 💕

I was also able to check another thing off my 40 by 40 experience list! I went to see the broadway musical Hamilton with my sister in law!

Last, but not least, John’s birthday is this week! We celebrate him and love him so very much!!

For this week’s post, I’m sharing a recent custom built buffet that we made for the conference room design that I’ve been working on for Lauren Hunt, ESQ. I’ll share more about their other interior design projects in the future, too!

They wanted a stylish place for the beverages to be stored in the conference room, and Laura agreed to let us custom build one so it could be the right size and style for the rest of the space.

Here’s how it looked after John built it.

Before we painted it, we made sure the fridge fit!

Then primed it!

Time to assemble it and deliver it!

Isn’t it beautiful! It has storage, shelving for the law books, and a mini fridge! It’s a perfect combination for any room!

Hi Friends!

How was your weekend? I hope you enjoyed the warmer temperatures! We are hard at work on our Trolley House flip and are so happy to have warmer temps while we are working in a house with no heat!

For this week’s post, I wanted to share a custom furniture makeover that we recently finished for a client.

Here’s the buffet before:

I love this style buffet! It’s one of my favorite styles to redo and it has so much storage so it’s really practical, too.

We painted the base Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore and sanded and stained the top with Minwax Dark Walnut. We also painted the hardware with a matte gold finish then sprayed the whole piece with a stain clear coat.

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope you had a nice weekend and were able to take some time to think about the sacrifice so many have made for our freedom. Such a humbling, overwhelming thought. I’m more than grateful for the freedoms we enjoy… that were anything but free.

On another note, I wanted to give huge thanks to Melissa Schuman from the The Record for the beautiful write up she did on FunCycled yesterday. For this week’s makeover, I wanted to share an ornate buffet makeover that we recently redid and is available on our shop page.

Here’s the buffet before:

I loved the ornate detailing of this piece so I wanted to keep the color fun, bright and let the glazing cause all of the detail to pop. For this piece, we used a turquoise color from the Chroma Paint line that you actually can’t get anymore.

Hi Friends!

I’m a little later in the day posting about this week’s Tuesday’s Treasures. I’m wearing a few too many hats this week, but no worries! We’ll get through this! ;)

I wanted to show you a makeover from furniture that came from a FunCycled fan, Bill! Thank you, Bill! It went to our friends Kevin and Deb’s home in Averill Park! They were looking for a set to bring their newly built dining room together. We actually made the base of the hutch a buffet and use the buffet as a base for the hutch top. I liked how it made it feel bigger and we could refinish the buffet top, but we wouldn’t have been able to refinish the hutch top.

Here’s the set before:

We painted the inside of the hutch top with Benjamin Moore’s Navajo White, the outside Blue Heron CC-840 and glazed it, refinished the top, added new hardware, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat.

Even though we’ve been in business for 9 years now, we still get asked if we will paint furniture that our clients own. The answer is yes! We have a professional grade air sprayer and can get a beautiful finish for your treasured furniture! This week’s Tuesday’s Treasures is a perfect example of that.

Joseph reached out to us to see if we could paint this buffet.

We were happy to help him with this project! We ended up painting the base Gray Shower 2125-30 by Benjamin Moore. Then we sanded and stained the top with classic gray by Minwax. Joseph wanted to keep the original hardware. Then we sprayed the whole piece with protective clear coat.
