A Little Fabric Goes a Long Way – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

Who had a great Mother’s Day? I hope you all did! Whether mother, daughter, or “2nd moms” – thanks to all the ladies who serve without recognition and love without measure. Here’s a quote that I keep on the inside of one of my kitchen cabinets. A great reminder…

“If I had my child to raise all over again,
I’d finger paint more, and point fingers less.
I’d do less correcting, and more connecting.
I’d take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less, and know to care more.
I’d take more hikes and fly more kites.
I’d stop playing seriously, and seriously play.
I’d run through more fields, and gaze at more stars.
I’d do more hugging and less tugging.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I’d build self esteem first, and the house later.
I’d teach less about the love of power, and more about the power of love.” -Diane Loomans

Also, I want to say thank you to my mom for loving me, making me laugh, being a huge help to me and loving on my babies. My sister, my lil Sweetie and my mom at a Mother’s Day luncheon at my mom’s church:

Sometimes I get so busy doing custom pieces that are ordered by our customers that I don’t have time to work with new styles and designs. I’ve been wanting to add fabric to the back of a hutch for a while. We still painted the back of this hutch cream just in case the customer decided to change the design years down the road. So here’s the hutch before…

Getting this hutch home was a pain in tiny hiney! We went to buy it and it was on the 2nd floor of a downtown Troy home. We thought that it might come in two pieces but the top was connected to the base. Se down we went, around a sharp corner and a skinny flight of stairs. I got in the shower the next morning to find what damage this beast of a hutch did to my body. Bruises everywhere!

It’s ok though, I knew it would be worth the effort for the end product. :)

Check out how we paint furniture on our How To Paint Furniture post. We painted this using Benjamin Moore’s Carlisle Cream. A perfect creamy favorite of mine. Normally I would distress or glaze a piece like this, but for some reason I like this one just painted as is. I bought the background fabric at Hobby Lobby. It was upholstery fabric.

To add the fabric to the back we removed the backer board on the back of the hutch and draped the fabric over the board. Then stapled the fabric to the top of the hutch then pulled from the bottom to get it tight and stapled the bottom. Then went to the left and right side and pulled tight and then stapled.

Here are the afters… this beauty sold in two days  and was voted as the favorite hutch on our Facebook page the last time I took a tally.
