Dumpster Divin’ for one of my Dearies – Tuesday’s Treasures

Well… dumpster diving may be a tiny bit of an exaggeration. My friend Jo Ann who reads all of these blog posts and makes sure I use “English” and don’t write something I could one day regret (except maybe that post about Sweetie peeing her pants at a customer’s house). My lil one may hate me for that in a few years.  Anyway, Jo Ann told me she would like a new media center designed from a dresser. You’ve seen those before either here or on Pinterest, right? I know you have… admit it you Pinterest addict. :)

Well, I found this baby along side a dumpster waiting for trash day. My hubby and I gladly picked it up for Jo Ann. Jo had a hard time seeing from the blah to the beautiful piece it could become, but I assured her if it wasn’t what she liked in the end, I would keep it for my own entertainment center. Have you been to my house? If you have, you know it’s been on my to do list for quite some time. Here it was… it had no hardware and quite a bit of grime and scratches, but it was also made from cherry wood, had dove tail drawers, and was a a good solid piece. Who could ask for more than that??

After we cleaned and sanded the grime away, I cleaned this baby up and got it ready for painting. We ended up taking off the bottom door and making a shelf inside for her DVD player and cable box. We also found these really cute boxes at Hobby Lobby and decided to buy them instead of baskets to give some color to the piece. If you go to Hobby Lobby,  you won’t find them unless you look for bright green and red with different knobs on the front. We ended up painting them to match two other walls in her living room/dining room space to bring some color to the piece. We bought the hardware from Hobby Lobby as well and had fun mixing and matching the pulls and handles.
We painted this one shade lighter than the non accent walls in her living room. It is Benjamin Moore’s carlisle cream . I just lightly distressed the whole piece and sealed it for a layer of protection. If you would like to see how I paint furniture check out this post. Ready to see the whole thing?

Don’t you love how a standard boring dresser can be turned into something amazing!! Sadly, Jo Ann decided she loved it and wanted to keep it. That’s too bad because I would have been delighted to keep it myself. ;) I hope you all enjoy it, too. If you do, let me know by commenting below sharing it with your friends.

Happy Redesigns Everyone,
Sarah
