Happy Tuesday everyone!! This weekend I was able to be a part of a Craft4Love day. A group of 60 ladies came together to craft all day and raise $3,680 for Love146. LOVE146 is a non profit organization that is working to prevent and ABOLISH child sex slavery and exploitation. This cause is a dark, ugly one but something that we can’t turn our heads away from…let’s support Love146, share their info to help make people aware of what’s happening and pray for them to effective! Here’s my table… crafting away. What an amazing day!!!
I’m sooooo in love with this week’s Tuesday’s Treasures. This bedroom set is the next group of items for Nancy and Steve. If you’re keeping track like I know Krista is, here’s a link to their Red Entertainment Center. This dresser set was amazing from the get go. It’s not too often that I get to work the level of craftsmanship that these pieces possessed. For all of you out there that are about to send me notes about how I shouldn’t paint over this mahogany, I’m sorry. It was a custom order and Nancy was sick of the wood so to her it was better to give it a new look than it was to just get rid of them all together. I have to say… I agree with her. I absolutely love the after pictures.
OK, so here’s what they looked like before.
Before we get to the how-to, let’s talk about the funny stuff. So, these dressers are SOLID mahogany not veneer. That being said, they are the heaviest things we’ve ever carried. Yup… that big long beast with 12 drawers. She’ll burst your insides out for sure!! Anyway, we were on our way delivering them to the UPSTAIRS of Nancy and Steve’s house and I was praying that I wouldn’t die doing it. lol! You try it people… I am not a buff guy or anything. :) We started carrying everything and it went well. Both end stands – check, the tall dresser – check, now headed out to grab the last piece. It was night time and dark and, well, I didn’t see that there was uneven pavement after their front step. What do I do?? Go FLYING… rather ungracefully twisting my ankle and landing on the ground in a ridiculous fashion. I was so glad Nancy and Steve weren’t outside to see it. John came running to make sure I lived through it. After he was sure I was not bleeding, he goes, “So can you get the last one upstairs??” While I’m still on the ground! – you see were his priority was! : ) l I then replied, “Let me see if I can walk first.” lol :) Thankfully, I was able to walk and even get the last big dresser up without too much pain. ;) Boy oh boy!
OK, on to the furniture!
We wanted to keep the original knobs because they are well… super pretty for lack of saying beautiful 100 times throughout this post! :) We lightly sanded them all and took Benjamin Moore’s Paper White and made it into our own chalk paint. I hand painted all of these puppies!! Yup, no spraying here! After a couple of coats, I glazed them using the dark glaze by Valspar and lightly distressed the edges. After that I waxed each piece WITHOUT gloves on. I highly, highly, highly do NOT recommend doing that. The wax literally put little 1/4 inch cuts all over my finger tips. My thumbs were bleeding and it took about a week for them to heal. Yeah, that’s not much fun when you’re a pianist… OK, I’m done whining. Learn from my stupidity people! :)
Are you ready for the after pictures??? I know I am!
A close up of those super pretty knobs!! :)
And all together one more time… because that’s how they like to be.
Have a great week and happy redesigns,
Sarah
