For today’s Tuesday Treasure, I want to shift gears a little and get us pumped about an upcoming event near and dear to us here at FunCycled. As you may know, one thing we love to do is give new purpose to items that may seem old or outdated and refresh them with new purpose. After all, that is the mission and heart of what we do!
A few years ago, FunCycled began hosting a special contest in honor of Earth Month, recognized during the month of April. Over the past few years the contest has changed a bit, but today we are so excited to share that we are once again hosting this contest- all of which will culminate with a VERY special event on April 20, 2024 with the BIG REVEAL of our contest winner! Below are all the details you need to know.

WHAT IS THE EARTH DAY UPCYCLING CONTEST?
The Earth Day Upcycling contest is designed to showcase your creativity or share your innovation by upcycling objects and giving them new purpose. Take a look around your house and I guarantee you will find something that might be headed for the trash, but if you look at it with a different lens, you can repurpose it and make it new again!
WHAT ITEMS CAN BE UPCYCLED?
Here’s the fun part! ANYTHING can be repurposed and submitted for the contest. You can upcycle clothes, wood, furniture, books, metal, or any other thing that is headed for the trash and you see a way to upcycle it into a new treasure!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Anyone and everyone! We invite all people from around the Capital District to join in. The point is to encourage ALL of us to take something old and make it new again by giving it a new purpose! Even if you aren’t too sure if this project is for you, tell someone else about it! And you never know, as you share, it may spark an idea!
HOW DO I ENTER THE CONTEST?
Here are the details of how to take part in this fun project and enter the contest!
- Make a plan for your vision (remember to take before photos)
- Create you new up cycled item
- Submit your information, including a before and after photo of your project to FunCycled by completing this FORM (reminder, photos due by April 7th.)
HOW IS THE WINNER DETERMINED?
Once we have compiled the submissions, we will share everyone’s creations and begin collecting votes. Here’s what you need to know:
- FunCycled will share the submitted photos on our social media channels (Facebook, Pinterest, & Instagram Stories) on April 10th
- We will ask for people to cast votes for their favorite creation by liking the corresponding photo
- Voting will conclude on April 17th at 9 pm
- The photo with the most votes on our social media pages wins!

HOW IS THE WINNER ANNOUNCED?
After we have tallied all of the votes, FunCycled will host a special event at our Award Ceremony Celebration on Saturday, April 20, 2024, hosted by Sand Lake Merchant. We invite all participants and their friends and family to join us to celebrate the winner and to champion efforts in Upcycling and repurposing in honor of Earth Month. Contestants can feel free to bring small Upcycled projects to the award ceremony!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON APRIL 20, 2024?
Mark this date and remember to keep it open because you could be the winner! That day, we invite everyone to gather at Sand Lake Merchant, located at 2869 NY Highway 43, Averill Park, NY 12018, to enjoy some Upcycled creations and celebrate our winner! Keep an eye out for more information on our social media channels as we get closer!

Your next step is to collect your thoughts and gather your materials to get your creation going and then submit to us ASAP! Oh, and don’t forget to share about this contest with your friends and family! The more, the merrier!
