Make it a Christmas to Remember

Hi, friends!

Well, here we go…it’s officially December, and if you are like me, you are in full Christmas mode! Which, by the way, I LOVE! So, today, I want to share with you a curated list of the best of Christmas decor, including some things that are absolute musts for Christmas 2024. Let’s jump in!

I have said it before, and I will say it again…it is important that clients understand that following trends should NEVER be the goal when designing your home and does not need to be your focus when it comes to decorating it either. That said, keeping an eye on trends can be fun and inspirational and is a great way to explore options we might not otherwise consider. So what you have before you is a list of items I have curated that are technically trending but are sure to include decor pieces that you can use year over year as well. The overarching theme of Christmas 2024 (whether you live in Upstate New York or across the nation) is Nostalgic Christmas. This can mean a variety of things to all of us as we recall childhood memories, but across the board, we are seeing notes of tradition, history, and vintage elements being incorporated into Christmas.

Traditional Patterns & Nostalgic Finds

Shades of red and green are an absolute must this year. For a few years, we have seen a lighter and neutral pallet more congruent with earth tones and a relaxed calming hues. But this year, you can count on rich & traditional tones and nostalgic patterns. Here are some festive decor items to add charm to your room.

Garland

This year, we are seeing garland, garland, garland, everywhere garland. From evergreens, to pine-cones, to ribbons (also another trend), to beads and tinsel. Below are some quality pine garlands that could be used on a railing, a mantle, or incorporated into your table decor.

Here are some decorative garlands that could be used to add layers to your Christmas tree or intertwined into your mantle display. I love that all of these give a nod to history and nostalgia!

Ribbons

So last year, ribbons made a come back with the emergence of Cottagecore decorating and also likely due to the release of Season 2 of Bridgerton, full of Regency and Victorian Style. Apparently nothing quite captures that vibe like ribbons! But it was this year, that the trend went so viral, hitting tiktok in a major way and helped spur an appreciation for what has been a “traditional” Christmas decor piece for centuries that spans generations.

If you have seen this trend, then you are seeing it showcased, tagged, and mentioned by young and old. The inspiration is this ribbon garland from Anthropologie. It’s pretty, but it is a little spendy. My suggestion, make your own or this kit from Amazon could be a great option. Plus, the link I have shared also includes a DIY video-it looks super easy and it will save you a bunch!

Ribbons aren’t just showing up as Christmas garland. We are seeing ribbons tied to Christmas trees – ornament style, donning tops of trees, being placed on vases and everyday decor items, and embellishing kitchen cabinet doors. Here are some options you could consider for your own home.

Tinsel & Vintage Inspired Trees

If you grew up in the 1980’s, you may remember a tree that looked a little like this one, decked out in loops of tacky tinsel – fun memories, but not exactly classy.

This year, so many are resurrecting the tinsel vibes and adding layers of tinsel, ribbons, and vintage ornaments for an explosion of nostalgia. But this time around, the decor is beautiful and the visual appeal well beyond the tackiness we may associate with those silver strands we know as TINSEL! Here’s an inspiration photo and some links below to get your perfectly tinsel and vintage adorned tree.

Red and Green (with a twist!)

Christmas trees this season are donning the same traditional hues of green and red, but with a new and rich twist. You will find rich burgundy’s and deeper greens adorning Christmas celebrations. Check out some inspiration and helpful links to create your own!

I hope you have found some new inspiration or ideas to try out this year for yourself!
