Dresser Makeover

Hi Friends!

How’s your week going? If you’re an avid reader of our blog and your reading this on Tuesday morning, I’m probably on a flight to California. I’m going for the first time, staying with my sister, and learning more about San Fransisco, the furniture shops, and the local economy there. I can wait to soak it up, be inspired, and share some of the special treats with all of you.

As for this week’s furniture makeover, I wanted to share a dresser makeover that we just did for our store.

Here it is before:

Dresser Before

We painted the outside with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, sanded the drawer fronts down and stained them with Early American by Minwax, then painted the drawer handles gold. If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post.

Stonington Gray Dresser

Hi Friend!

How are you? I hope you’re having a great week! I’ve been knee deep in commercial and residential interior design projects this week. It’s definitely stretching me, but I love learning and I love designing. I can’t wait to share some of the transformation with you.

This week’s makeover is of a simply dresser project. Here’s the before picture:

For this piece, we went with Benjamin Moore’s color Stonington Gray. If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. After we painted it, we lightly glazed it, and sprayed a protective clear coat over the top. We kept all the hardware original on this piece.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting in Slingerlands, Ny

Hi Friends!

How was your week? The first full week of the new year! I hope you’ve had a second to think back and reflect on all the blessings of 2018 and challenge yourself to something new in 2019 that will stretch you, encourage you, and give you the opportunity to bless others. I had a chance to go out with a dear friend to talk through all of those things this week and it was such a sweet time of sharing and look ahead together. I really encourage you to try and do that with your closest friends and loved ones this year. Let’s all dream together, challenge each other, and inspire each other to greatness.

This week, we also had the honor of watching the girl who was the flower girl at our wedding get married to the man of her dreams. Our little Harmony was her flower girl! How sweet is that! Tasha is such a wonderful friend and joy to be around. She’s been living with us for the past 2 years whenever she’s not in college and we are going to miss her with every ounce of our hearts! Congratulations Tasha and Derek! We love you guys!

For this week’s makeover, I wanted to share some before and after’s of a kitchen cabinet painting job in Slingerlands, Ny! Keep your eye on the island to see my favorite part of the transformation.

We painted the main cabinets Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore. Then John altered the island by adding wood trim. I feel like it looks like a completely different island. We painted the island Steel Wool – 2121-20 by Benjamin Moore. We also sprayed the cabinets with a protective clear coat and added new hardware. Ready for the after?

Black Buffet Makeover

Hi Friends!

Happy New Year!!! I can’t believe it’s already 2019!!! Where did 2018 go? So many changes in the last year… including buying a new house, hiring more staff, doing stage set design for our church, starting commercial design, and trying our first ever vendor show at our house. It was such a wonderful year! I’ve learned so much and have been humbled by God’s strength every day and the joy He fills my heart with. I couldn’t do this without His daily grace and love pouring all over me.

For this week’s furniture makeover, I wanted to show you a quick before and after of a beautiful buffet. Here it is before:

For this piece, we went with Benjamin Moore’s color Black. If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. After we painted it, we lightly distressed it, and sprayed a protective clear coat over the top. All new hardware also created such a different look!

Vintage Teal Dresser Makeover

Hi Friends!

How was your Christmas? We had a wonderful day hosting my family! It was a perfect blend of relaxation and fun. Loved reading the Luke account of Jesus’s birth with my family and singing Christmas carols together. It was such a beautiful day!

I’m a little late in posting this because I took some much needed time off at the beginning of the week. In fact, we’re taking the whole week off this week to start working on our new house.

Christmas 2018

For this week’s makeover, I wanted to share a quick dresser before and after. Here it is the day I bought it:

Dresser Before

I loved the straight lines and handles on this piece. We went with Valspar’s color Vintage Teal for the box of this dresser. If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. After we painted it, glazed it, and sprayed a protective clear coat over the top.

Are you ready for the afters?

Brewster Gray Bathroom Vanity Makeover

Hi Friends!

How’s your week going? I hope you’re enjoying all the holiday festivities!

This weekend, my girl had her first ever figure skating performance and did such a great job. She loved every minute and I loved every minute, too. The smile that never left her face was priceless. Oh my heart, my heart! 💕

Today I wanted to show you a quick bathroom makeover we did for one of our interior design clients.

Here’s the bathroom before:

Our client’s didn’t want to have to remove the vanity but we wanted to give the space a fresh, new look. We painted the vanity Brewster Gray by Benjamin Moore. Then John built a custom mirror for above the vanity and they installed a new light.

Interior Design and Kitchen Cabinet Painting in Delmar, NY

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope all is going well and that you had a great weekend! We had a busy first full week with remodeling the new house. So thankful for a reprieve from the work with a late Friendsgiving and an ugly Christmas Sweater party this weekend.

We also had our first ever holiday vendor show and open house yesterday at our Evergreen Lane home. Hundreds of you showed up and we had the BEST night. Thank you so much to so many of you that came to support and shop local. I can’t adequately express how much it meant to me!

For this week’s makeover, I’m sharing a before and after that has been coming for a long time! We started with a design consult on this space back in the spring and have been working on multiple projects in Alexa and Matt’s house. From design boards for lighting, to a kitchen design, shiplap walls, a murphy bed, white washed brick, built in corner bench, etc. It’s been so fun working with Alexa. The first day I met her, I came home and told John, “I really hope she wants to work with us. She’s so nice!”. Over time, I’ve learned the value of working with kind souls.

Let’s look at the before pictures from the day they bought the house:

Thankfully, we didn’t have to remove the wallpaper. She hired someone else for that! ;) We picked the wall colors and painted the kitchen cabinets. Klassic Stone installed the soapstone, and we installed the new backsplash. I love, love, love this transformation. We painted all the cabinets Stonington Gray Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

Ready for the afters??

Repurposed Reed Organ Desk

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope you’re all doing well! We had a wonderful time seeing so many of you at Troy’s Victorian Stroll last Sunday! It was such a fun day!!

I have so much to tell you about it, but that’s for another post. Let me give you a little teaser… we purchased a new home this week! We will be repurposing it room by room and sharing the story with all of you!

Eleanor was born in this home 95 years ago and has lived here her whole life. Monday, for the first time since 1818, the keys for this home were given to someone outside of the family. They were placed in our hands. We will make this beauty shine again, Eleanor. Room by room. Through sweat and I’m sure some tears, we’ll take this gift and give it our best work. Reviving the old through as much repurposing as possible. Welcome to the #repurposedideahouse by #funcycled 💕💕

I’ll be sharing more rooms and details in the days and years to come, but for this week I wanted to share a makeover of a one of a kind piece we just added to the store.
Here it is before (I actually forgot to get a picture before we took the keys out):
When I saw this piece at a barn sale, I actually thought it might be a piano. It looks so much like antique square grand pianos. Once we brought it to the shop and starting working on it, we realized that it wasn’t a piano. It had no strings inside at all! Thankfully a gentleman was shopping at FunCycled during the stroll this weekend who specialized in piano and organs. He let me know that it’s an antique Reed organ! That makes more sense! It’s not heavy because there is no sound board and it seemed like air was used to create sound, but it didn’t work any more when we got it.
Since then, we altered the top to make a flat surface with a glass top. We painted the main part of the piece with BM’s bm gentleman’s teal, glazed it, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat. We also painted all the cast iron parts of the organ and painted them gold and glazed them as well.

Ready for the afters?

So pretty, right?? This beauty is up on our For Sale page! If this isn’t quite what you’re looking for, we have more. Check out some of the many new pieces on our For Sale page now:

Living Room Design for 1795 Home

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving with family or friends! We debated on whether we should decorate for Christmas this year since we close on the new house next week. A good friend spoke truth into my life. Encouraging me to give up some plans and to simplify life so we would still have time to enjoy Christmas as a family. There will always be something to renovate, work to be done, more people wanting help, but one thing that won’t come back is a Christmas with my kids still enjoying the wonder of it all. I’m so thankful for her wisdom and her challenging me to have enough courage to say no to some things that I love so I could say yes to those I love most.

This week, I wanted to share some after pictures of an interior design job that has been slowly happening since the spring. This house had so much character and just needed a little sprucing up with paint colors, rugs, couch covers, furniture placement and decor items. We had a wonderful time working together and I absolutely love how everything came out. Sorry I don’t have any after pictures for you!
