Cloud White Kitchen Cabinets

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope you’re having a great week so far. We had some fun this weekend. We decided to become a kayaking family. I wasn’t sure how it would go, but it went really well! We loved the sunshine and quiet. The water was warm and the wind wasn’t strong so it made for a great first day out.

On Sunday, we went to Polo in Saratoga for the first time with our dear friends and had a blast!

For this week’s Tuesday’s Treasures, I wanted to share a kitchen makeover with you that we recently finished in Delmar. I don’t share every kitchen makeover because we typically do one kitchen a week, but I wanted to share this one for a couple of reasons. Some clients have this style granite and think they can’t make it work in their house with new cabinet color. I think this shows how much it still updated the kitchen to have painted cabinets while still keeping this style granite.

Hutch Makeover with Wainscoting

Hi Friends!

How are you? Before I share the before and after of this week’s Tuesday’s Treasures, I wanted to share a big announcement. We are brining back Broken To Beautiful! We will redo one piece of furniture for free per quarter! You can read all about how to submit for it here.

Helping to spread the love – one dresser at a time. 💕

For this weeks furniture makeover, we took this outdate hutch:

We painted the whole thing Simply White by Benjamin Moore and lightly distressed it. We also added new hardware and sprayed it with a protective clear coat. One of my favorite parts is that we added wainscoting to the back of the hutch in a medium brown/gray combination.

If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post.

FunCycled’s Repurposed Idea House – Living Room Makeover

Hi Friends!!

As you may already know, we bought this old, beautiful home in December of 2018.

FunCycled’s Repurposed Idea House

Every. single. room needs lots and lots of work. Some call us crazy, some call us brilliant, and to be honest, some days I feel a little bit of both. I adore making this beauty our own, but with a busy, thriving business, coming home to more work feels daunting some days. I can’t tell you how many days I’ve cried to John and said, I just need one room done, just one room. For those of you who have never remodeled a home, the tricky part is that no matter how hard you try, it’s always a complete mess. Dust in the air, wood everywhere, tools everywhere. It hard to have that everywhere and feel like inviting friends over or relaxing and watching a movie. It feels embarrassing to have people over because even though you’re working as hard as you can, it still looks like you’re not. John is very good at setting boundaries on when we won’t work on the house or reading the pulse of the family mood and deciding that it’s time for dinner out and movie. He works so incredibly hard and loves us even harder. I tend to be the one saying, just one more thing and then….

That being said, after 7 months, we have a room done in our house and I’m so excited to have our home be a Tuesday’s Treasures! Yay! I would say that despite the tears and the lack of relaxing this year, I would do it again now that I have one room done. It feels better than I can even explain to have a space to sit with friends that’s comfy and cute. It’s not always about having the best things, but I do believe having a relaxing space that’s inviting – however that looks to you – is so important in a home. Now we do, we do!! One room is done and more will be soon! I can’t wait to share this transformative journey room by beautiful room with all of you. Thanks for following along! I love reading your comments and getting your input! It makes the journey even sweeter.

Here’s the living room before:

Wall crumbling from a leak in the roof.
Many of the windows were cracked or wouldn’t close. All new windows needed.
Tiny little bathroom in the corner needed a remodel.
So. Much. Wallpaper…. gulp.

Everything that’s going to be beautiful in the end gets really ugly to start. We had to rip out almost all the lath and plaster in this room. Either from water damage in the roof or to install new electric and insulation. There were very few outlets in this room so we wanted to add more and an overhead light switch.

Coming home to all the lath ripped out and on top of our brand new rug and some home decor. 🤔
Making a way for an overhead light at the ceiling and ripping out more lath for electrical and insulation.
New windows are in! Shiplap is almost done and the radiators are painted black. We refinished the floor by this step, too.
Starting to shiplap the exterior of the little bathroom.

The kitchen in our house has picture rail at the top to hang pictures from so we wanted to keep that look in this room as well.

My design has changed a lot over the years. Even though I loved my last house so much, I’m leaning toward a more midcentury farmhouse look now. I’m not sure if that’s even technically the name of a design style, but I think it best describes the look I’m going for. A little bit of farmhouse charm mix with clean lines and mid-century furniture.

Ready for the afters??

Shiplap walls, mid century couch and love seat, FunCycled midcentury credenza, artwork that the kids and I made from old sheet music, and home decor.
All new windows, real greens, the sun pouring into the space, and a dark teal couch = dreamy!
The infamous door… I left it chippy like this for now. I may change it out later to black, but I really loved all the character and beauty it brought to the space.
A faux fireplace until we get time to install a gas fireplace in this area. Family picture is a must for me!
Mid century light – a gift from my dear friend Nancy!
Black barn door with brass barn door slider. Made by John! :)
Teal coffee table centerpiece from my bestie MaryGrace. 💕
A fake plant just in case I kill the real ones. lol
Who recognizing that Magnolia blanket? It’s another cute gift from Nancy.
Little sitting area by the windows.
Ferns are my favorite!
Mid Century Farmhouse Living Room Makeover

Here’s a list to answer some of the questions I thought you might ask.

Walls: 8″ shiplap painted Benjamin Moore’s Simply White
Joybird Couch in Lucky Turquoise Fabric
Gray Mid Century Love Seat

Next month, I’ll be sharing the before and afters of the tiny little corner bathroom in the living room area. Sign up for our weekly newsletter so you don’t miss out by adding your email in the little box below my picture.

Painted Vintage Side by Side Secretary Desk

Hi Friends,

How are you? I feel like every week I say I’m going to show you the completed pictures of our living room, but every week, something comes up that causes us to not quite be done… patience. If nothing else, I’m learning patience in a fixer upper house. lol I’m hoping but not promising that I’ll have some updates to show you next week though. :)

Last week, we had the first week of summer break for the kids combined with the week after vacation. If any of you own your own business, you know how lethal of a combination that is! On top of that, I had a kidney stone. It’s almost laughable writing about it now, but it definitely wasn’t in the moment. I may have cried about 20 times last week. I’m so thankful for the army of women around me who encouraged, helped, prayed over, and listened last week. God knew I needed each and every one of you!! Guess what? This is a new week. Today is a new day. We have so much to be thankful for! Those kids who keep me busy are my favorite gift. That work load that seems crushing at times is a load of all things that I absolutely love doing. That kidney stone reminded me of how thankful I am that I’m healthy usually. Aligning my feelings with truth over here. :)

For this week’s furniture makeover, I wanted to show you a gorgeous secretary desk makeover for Peg and Lou. Here it is before:

We painted the inside pull down area Spirit in the Sky by Benjamin Moore and the outside area Meadow Mist by Benjamin Moore. We also glazed it with a brown glaze and sprayed it with a protective clear coat.

If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post.

Our Trip to Prince Edward Island

Hi Friends!

Last week, John and I celebrated 16 years of marriage and went away for a week for, I believe, the first time since our kids were born (11 years). Call me cheesy, but I love all things Anne of Green Gables and have been wanting to visit Prince Edward Island for years. I’ve heard all about the red, sandy beaches and red cliffs. I’ve watched the movie about the lake of shining water.

So off we went!

One of my favorite stops was at the Cavendish Cliffs… they we so red, bright and beautiful! I loved them so much!! We had the convertible top down, the sun was shining bright, and we soaked up the beauty all day long.

Of course, we started the first day of the trip with all things Anne of Green Gables. The museum, the house she wrote the book about, the Avonlea village, the restaurant Dulvay by the Sea. The musical Anne and Gilbert (which was amazing by the way!).

We took a day to go light house hunting… there are so many on the island, but we ended up getting to see about 3 because we made other stops on the way.

Last, but not least, we went on a food walking tour of Halifax. Halifax wasn’t what I expected. I thought it would be more like Martha’s Vineyard, but it was more like if Boston and San Francisco had a baby. It felt like the size of and look of Boston but with some hills like San Fran. It was a fun day!

Halifax, PEI

People kept asking us how fun it was there… I would say PEI is relaxing more than fun. There isn’t a lot to do, but the views are absolutely breath taking and if the weather is nice (which it was for us), the drives and hikes are perfection! Our life is so much fun on the regular so a week of relaxing is more what we were looking for. We went with nothing planned. No schedule. Took every day as it came. Slept in. Laughed. Talked about life goals. It was a sweet, much needed time for us.

Thanks to our team back home that kept everything running smoothly while we were gone. We feel so blessed to have trusted, hard working staff that do their best to keep things under control so they didn’t have to interrupt our time way.

I know it’s not a Tuesday’s Treasures post without a transformation, so I also wanted to show you the before and afters of a new secretary desk that is available on our website now!

Before:

We painted the outside with Benjamin Moore’s Black, lightly distressed it, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat. We also sprayed the hardware a different color.

White Kitchen Cabinets with White Quartz and Butcher Block Counters

Hi Friends!

How are you? I hope you’re having a great week! I’m a little tight on time this week, but I wanted to share a stunning kitchen makeover for Christine in Clifton Park. She’s been a client of ours for years and always a delight to work with!

Here’s the kitchen before:

Christine had the tall section of the base cabinets brought lower and flush then extended the counter out a bit. She also had the counters replace. We added in the butcher block counter under the wine bar, the shiplap on the back side of the bar area, and installed the tile. In addition to painting the cabinets of course!

Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore Cabinet Color
Butcher Block on the Wine Bar Area
White Shiplap on the Back of the Bar Area
Installed New Backsplash

You can use our Contact Us form or check out other kitchen projects on our For Sale page. We’ll need to see a picture of your kitchen, a list of how many doors and drawers there are, and where you are located to email you an estimate. This change ups the value of your home and gives you a whole new look at a fraction of the cost of new kitchen cabinets!

Some fun new furniture for sale in our store now:

Mustard Yellow Antique Buffet For Sale

Hi Friends!

How was your long weekend? Here in upstate New York, it was sunny and stunning! We spent almost all of Saturday trying to finish up the living room and start working on the kitchen in our repurposed idea house. Sadly, we didn’t get to finish the living room, but hopefully one more day will do the trick! Little details can take longer than you’d expect! :) We did get to have a group of friends over on Sunday for a bonfire which was really fun!

For this week’s makeover, I wanted to show you a beautiful buffet that we added a pop of color to! Here it is before:

We painted the outside with the line of paint that we cary in our store – Recolor Chroma Color Paint in mustard, glazed it, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat. If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post.
Ready for the after???

Fixer Upper Fans Trip to Waco

Hi Friends!

As you know, I just got back from a trip to Waco, TX! Some people have asked me why I went or what there is to do in Waco. It’s the town where Chip and Joanna Gaines have their store Magnolia Market and their restaurant Magnolia Table. It’s also where they’ve recorded all of the home makeovers for their show Fixer Upper.

My bestie, MaryGrace, and her daughter Elise were planning a trip and I asked if I could tag along to explore for you all and share what I found. This my 3rd trip to Waco and it really doesn’t get old to me. I loved every minute. I tried to get Joanna to meet me with a video about it, but she never called. lol I was about 10 steps from her mom though. Does that count??

We started the trip with breakfast at Magnolia Table. A couple tips about going there… try to go during off times – really early breakfast or an early lunch. It helps with the wait times. We went around 11am on a Thursday and the wait was about an hour. We tried to go again on a Saturday but the wait was 3 hours long. Another idea is to go and put your name in, if the wait is long, take a drive to some of the Fixer Upper houses until they text you to come back to the restaurant. Fill time in with even more Fixer Upper fun! Need some help finding those? Here you go!

If the wait is an hour or less, you’ll probably have enough to do right at the restaurant while you wait. You can try a lavender latte at the cafe (my personal favorite). You can head to the take out area and shop. You can walk all around looking like tourists (everyone’s doing it) to take pictures of yourself, the pretty building or even be nice and ask other people if they’d like you to take their picture for them. The time really flies by!

About to order lattes!
Waiting in line for our reservations at Magnolia Table

After your late breakfast, head over to Magnolia Market at the Silos! I like to go back again right before they close so I can check everything out with less people in the way.

You could have a late lunch at the food trucks in the outdoor area of Magnolia!

Or you can just enjoy the garden areas and swings!

You can also hop on a trolly out front that will take you around the city. There are different spots throughout the city for drop off and pick up so you can shop all the way through.

I also highly recommend visiting Clint Harp’s Studio:

Also, going to see Jimmy Don at JDH Iron Design is always one of the highlights of my trip. He even knew me by name and asked me to stay and catch up with him for a while. Sometimes Jimmy also does pop up markets right next to Magnolia at 401 S 8th Street, Waco, Tx.

You can also choose to stop by some of the shops that have been featured on the show. The airbnb that we stayed at left us a list of those and I thought I’d share that with you, too!

Head over to the Branding the Brazos Sculptures by the bridge. Its a pretty walk and you can have lots of fun trying to climb up on the bulls… or is that not allowed??

Last but definitely not least, make sure you drive out to take a look at Chip and JoJo’s house! 10095 N Highway 6, Crawford, Tx 76638

I’d say you could easily spend 2-3 days in Waco and have plenty to do if you’re a Fixer Upper fan! It’s so relaxing and fun! If you have any other favorite spots in Waco, please share them in the comments below!

Modern Industrial Apartment Design

Hi Friends!

As you probably all know if you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, I went to Magnolia Market and Table in Waco Texas at the end of last week! I had such a great time and I can’t wait to share all the details with you, I just didn’t have quite enough time to write up the post for this week, but I plan to for next week.

This week, I’d like to show you a commercial deign job that I’ve been working on for a couple of months! Here it is before:

Our clients wanted to keep the wall colors the same, but change out the furniture and decor to make it a more updated, industrial space. In the living room, we went with a velvet couch, gold and rustic wood accents, and we made custom signs for the walls. Keep. Life. Simple.

In the bedroom, we custom built a headboard and provided the furniture made from old furniture that was repurposed with a new modern/rustic look. Here’s the bedroom and bathroom before:

Annnnddd the afters:

I also love how little accent pieces made the rooms pop. Before:

After:

Do you own a business that you think could use some updating? You can use our Contact Us form to reach out to us about rates and options available.
