Happy St. Patrick’s Day Mint Green Dresser – Tuesday’s Treasures

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! I love this holiday. Did you know that according to legend St. Patrick used the three leaf clover (or shamrock) to explain the Trinity? That’s a good reason to like it, but to be completely forthright, I love it because my husband makes the best corned beef and cabbage on the planet. He cooks the corned beef, then cuts it up and adds cabbage and carrots, and stir fries it all in about 17 pounds of butter so it’s salty and crispy and oh my word so good!

One thing I haven’t had time to really get into on the blog is that our daughter Harmony went through testing last month. She has been sick for about 6 months and after blood work, an endoscopy and genetic testing, the doctors believe she has celiac disease and needs to be on a strictly gluten free diet. With John having a culinary degree and many of my friends being gluten free, the thought of going gluten free didn’t scare me that much. Week after week, I’ve been having major #momfail moments -forgetting to check a label assuming I knew, forgetting altogether she’s gluten free and telling her to eat mac and cheese. Man oh man! We’re getting better slowly. The hardest part for us is that we are on the go all the time and it’s so hard to find a place to eat out that has gluten free AND kid friendly food. It makes us want to start a GF restaurant. It’s the entrepreneurial spirit in us! Lol! If you live in our area and know of kid friendly, gluten free restaurants, please share them with me. I’d love help! Also, I wouldn’t mind fun, GF lunch ideas if you have them. ;)

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s day I had to share a green furniture makeover today. Although this isn’t what you picture as St. Patrick’s Day green, it’s the closest that I have at the moment. :) Give me credit for trying at least. lol

Here’s the dresser before.

To see how we paint furniture check out our How To Paint Furniture post. We used a gallon that we already had for the color, but the best match to a swatch that I could find was Benjamin Moore’s Cool Mint 582. We decided on the color by letting our facebook fans pick from these choices. If you haven’t already started following us on Facebook, please join in on the fun here. You’ll get to see furniture before it ends up on our site and help me make fun decisions like this.

Here are the afters for you!

Chevron Nursery Dresser – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

How are you? I almost started this post saying… man, it’s been a busy week here!! :) Then I realized, I’m pretty sure most of my posts have started that way lately. Instead, I want to say thank you!! You all keeping us busy is AWESOME. Maybe I should say, it’s been a great week! Because maybe this busy is the new normal. Which would be such a wonderful next in our story.

We were thrilled to get so much publicity from our episode of Flea Market Flip airing last week. We were on the front page of the Times Union paper, in the Troy Record, on CBS New Channel 6, and other local blogs. We were so thankful to all the great writers, caring photographers, and videographers who shared our story. I also wanted to say thank you to one of our customers who has helped us every step of the way with the marketing and PR since our store opened. Thank you, Kori Ann! I couldn’t have done any of this without you.

All the glory goes to God most of all! This is a gift from Him and doing what we love every day is a privilege and a blessing that we don’t take lightly!

This week’s antique piece was made by American of Martinsville furniture and was so unique! I was hoping we could do a fun design on it because of the straight lines! 2014-09-03_0030 2014-09-03_0031 2014-09-03_0032When Lesley reached out to us, she had seen this dresser on our Upcoming Projects page and thought it might work in her daughter’s nursery. She wanted to incorporate grey, white and yellow. I adore chevron patterns so I mentioned working with chevron on the drawer fronts. She was game and off we went to design.

To see how we paint furniture check out our How To Paint Furniture post. This dresser was painted with Benjamin Moore’s Simply white, the chevron grey is Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore. The hardware is from Hobby Lobby and we used chevron tape from Frogtape. If you’ve ever taped off chevron before, you’ll know how much of a PAIN IN THE TUSH it is. This makes chevron super easy!

You ready for the after… you may wanna sit down. Just sayin. ;)

What it’s like being on Flea Market Flip – Part 1

Hi Everyone!!!

We were on HGTV’s Flea Market Flip competition and the show aired on March 1st showing that WE WON! If you missed it you can download it from iTunes here: Happy Flipping Anniversary Or you can watch it on Amazon Prime here: Happy Flipping Anniversary

Fun isn’t even a good enough word to describe what it was like being on the show. It was a dream come true for me. I’d been watching the show for years with my friend, Marcie. We would eat ice cream and drink coffee until all hours of the night watching one DVR’d episode after episode. Marcie urged me to try to get on the show. I really thought there would be no chance at all. We emailed the casting crew and didn’t hear anything back for about 4-5 months. Then they emailed us back and asked us to do a Skype interview. That was AWKWARD at best. Holy cow, I thought for sure there was no way we would be chosen. Have you ever had a Skype interview? Well, then you understand. ;)

When John and I got to the hotel late the night before, I realized I forgot my bathroom bag. Good thing I wasn’t going on TV the next day because I had no hair straightener, shampoo, blow dryer, tooth paste, or deodorant. And I forgot my phone charger and iPad. Oh wait! I WAS going on TV the next day. Do you think I was stressed or nervous? Maybe, just a touch :).  I totally begged the front desk for the necessities and made it work.  To bed we went and it was one of those night’s when you wake up 100 times to make sure you didn’t miss the ungodly early alarm that was set. A girl must not be late her first time meeting Lara Spencer and miss being on Flea Market Flip. I woke up early and forgot to ask for shampoo so I had to walk to the front desk looking like poop. Who did I  meet in the hall while looking like poop? One of the guys working for Flea Market Flip… the sound tech. I found out that was him later when we met at the filming. Oh hi… yeah, you’re the guy in the hall this morning. lol

The first day of filming was a brisk, misty day. We had to be there bright and early (about 6am) to meet our producers and get set for the day.

FMF9 When we got the the flea market, they wired us with our microphones and we met our producer (each team gets one). There are usually multiple teams being filmed at the same time. I had read on other blogs that you usually get time to look through the flea market to get an idea of what pieces you would like to buy before filming starts. That morning we found out we were the first team up for filming so had no time to check out the flea market. We had never been to the Stormville Flea Market and it’s HUGE. That being said, it was overwhelming! I asked the producer if we could run it for like 10 minutes to get an idea of which direction even had furniture. Every other team would have time to look as they waited for their turn to be recorded. They gave us 10 minutes and we ran! I found a couple things I liked, but you can’t talk to any vendor for any reason. Just look! Continue reading What it’s like being on Flea Market Flip – Part 1

We Won Flea Market Flip and Our Custom Built Furniture Designs – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!!

How are you all?? I’m sure most of you have heard by now, but WE WON the competition show Flea Market Flip on HGTV.
FMF Winner 2

So many people have asked me how to watch the show without cable, and you can download it from iTunes here: Happy Flipping Anniversary Or you can watch it on Amazon Prime here: Happy Flipping Anniversary

Stay tuned because later this week I’ll be sharing what it was like to be on the show… behind the scenes of each day of filming.

Today on Tuesday’s Treasures, I wanted to talk to you a little bit about custom furniture we’ve been building lately. I completely adore this coffee table, especially the painted parts keeping the paint mostly in the grain. The top is maple and the small stripe gives it just the right amount of modern design I was hoping for.

6-116-12 6-13

Coffee tables can be custom ordered in any size. This one has a creamy white base and aged wood top.

5-4

This one has legs that are over 130 years old and an aged wood top. It’s available on our Furniture For Sale Page now.

5-3

This HUGE buffet was a mixture of barn wood, maple top and pine legs. We designed it as a custom order to go in a dining room with a rustic table that we built. 7-12 7-13 7-11 7-10

Any of these designs or tables can be custom ordered at any time. To check out pricing, see our Custom Built Furniture page. Here are some past table projects, too.

2014-10-06_0032 2014-08-05_0044 2014-08-05_0026 Thanks so much for checking out the new designs!!! I can’t wait to tell you all about Flea Market Flip soon!!!

Multi Colored Dresser – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

Oh boy has life been busier than I expected this month. Usually, February is on the slower side, but not so this year. You’ve been keeping us busy and I’m so thankful!

This week I want to show you a quick before and after of a fun dresser that I adore! It was for my friend, Nancy, who let me be creative and gave me pretty much free reign. Gulp! I know that’s tough to do and it means so much!

Nancy is not only a friend, but she also helps me out by taking amazing pictures of our furniture. She doesn’t want me to give her credit, but I have to at least once. You’re an amazingly talented lady and a keeper friend, Nancy. Check  out Nancy Noble Photography.

Here’s the dresser before.

4-10

If you’d like to see how we paint furniture, check out our How To Paint Furniture post. It was for a friend so I forgot to write down the colors the we used. Eeeeep! Don’t hate. It was too cute not to share even without all the color info. Edit –> I would do these colors for the dresser. Box – BM’s senora gray 1530, top drawer – BM’s simply white, middle drawer – BM’s glen ridge gold 301, bottom drawer, BM’s graphite 1603.

Also, remember that we will be on Flea Market Flip on THIS SUNDAY March 1st at 8pm on the Great American Country Channel.

White and Gray Secretary’s Desk Makeover – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi Friends!

Holy coldness batman! Who’s with me, feeling like this is the longest winter of all time in human history?? OK, maybe not quite that bad, but then again, feels like maybe I’m right. We’ve had an eventful week! Our little sweetie had some test done  (I’ll tell you more about that soon); thanks to all who were praying and reached out to me to see how she’s doing. Our SUV gave up the ghost… and we bought a mini van. I love it so much because unlike our SUV, I can fit kids and furniture in the vehicle at the same time. Call me a soccer mom. Go on. Do it! lol

The store has been super busy. If you came to the shop this weekend, you saw so many things had sold tags on them. I have 6 new pieces going into the store tomorrow so stop by and check them out!

I’m excited to share the before and after of this secretary’s desk makeover. This beautiful set is for sale! Check out our Furniture For Sale page for size and pricing info. If you don’t see it there, it’s been sold.  And then come back a couple days later, won’t you, to see photos of all of the new pieces!

Here’s the chair before.

new 120And the desk.

new 169
new 171It needed quite a bit of love to rebuild parts of the feet and get the drawers working right again. We painted the outside using Benjamin Moore’s Simply  White and the inside a grey. If you’d like to see how we paint furniture, check out our How To Paint Furniture post.

Cedar Armoire Makeover – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi friends!

If you read our blog first thing Tuesday morning, I’ll be at the hospital with my little sweetie. She’s having some minor testing done, but she’ll be sedated for the first time. I’m sure all will be well but if you think of us and would like to say a prayer… I’d love that. ;)

We’ve made it through another snow storm and man oh man am I hoping it’s the last one of this winter. A little behind the scenes info about how we do what we do… our barn is about 250 feet behind our house. What that means is we have to carry furniture in the snow once the snow gets too deep to drive it back to the barn. We already had some snow from the snow storm a couple of weeks ago and tried to drive through it. Well… we started sliding down the very steep hill in our back yard. John told me to try to drive it in reverse while he lifted on the front to help the back tire touch the ground. I could just picture hitting the gas and it sliding down more and you know… squishing him. He was SURE it wouldn’t so I gave it a go. It didn’t squish him… he’s still around. It also didn’t work. Dang it. So we had to call AAA to tow us out of our own back yard. lol That’s a tiny bit embarrassing to have the neighbors watch.

Now for some exciting news of the week!! The episode of Flea Market Flip that we are on should be airing on March 1st at 8pm on the GAC network. I’m soo eager to watch it! I can’t wait to see how everything turned out with the editing and I can’t wait to tell you all about the experience. So tune in if you have cable, and if you don’t let me know and maybe we’ll host a FunCycled show watching party!

As for furniture, I’m excited to show you this cedar armoire makeover. This was FALLING apart. John had to rebuild so much of it to make it sturdy again. Here it is before.

2014-12-03_0022

We taped off the top and bottom to keep some of the fun wood designs and then painted the rest using Benjamin Moore’s color Dragon’s Breath. If you’d like to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. Then we lightly distressed it, added new hardware and did a protective clear coat. Grey Mirrored Dresser For Sale – Tuesday’s Treasures

Hi friends!

If you’re reading this and feeling a little blah from another snow storm and more freezing cold temperatures, I’m going to share a little about my sunny visit to Florida last week. Maybe that’s going to make you dislike me, but I’m trusting it won’t. I’m hoping that you’ll love the story and it will distract you a bit from this nasty week in New England.

Last weekend, I went on a trip to see my friend Marcie. On my flight to Florida, I had the rare opportunity to watch the sunset from above the clouds. Maybe for some of you that’s a normal occurrence. It was a first for me, I felt so tiny… way up above the clouds. Filled with awe by the technology we have to be able to be flying… and watching a movie or taking a nap. Just mind blowing. I mean, look at this!
tt1As I was taking this picture the lady next to me asked if we should switch seats since this was probably the 10th picture I had taken (and I was in the middle seat). Annoying I’m sure, I just couldn’t help myself. lol That reminded me of the last trip when I was flying in the dark, but the moon was amazing. I was in the middle seat, yet again, it seems to be my destiny. I snapped a quick shot while the lady next to me was sleeping. Well…. I didn’t realize that my sound and flash were on and it went off right in her face. She literally jumped and screamed in utter fear. I apologized profusely and she was very forgiving, but oh my word it still makes me laugh to think about.

I made it to Tampa and saw my friend Marcie.
tt4Marcie’s a special lady… I could go on and on about all I love about her. I’ve done that a couple times on the blog already so I won’t do it again. She doesn’t like all that mushy gushy stuff anyway. That being said, makes my next story all the more special. I walked into the guest room in Marcie’s house, turned on the lights, and found this.
tt2She had put 31 balloons all over my room and each balloon had a hand written note with something that she loves about me. Coming from a non-mushy gushy kind of person, I knew she went out of her comfort zone to show me love in one of my love languages… words of affirmation. I saved every note. I want to give her a public thanks because things like this mean so very much to me and is what sets her apart as a forever friend in my book.

Asher is almost 2 and he’s Marcie’s youngest son. I was thankful to love on him and be loved by him. You see, he has LCH which is a rare disease that produces cancer in your body. Right now, he has liver cancer. He is a reminder to me that every day is a gift.
tt7

And last but certainly not least, I was able to hang out with my friend turned sister in law, Gina. It’s been FOREVER since we’ve had just her and me time. It was so fun!!
tt6

My flight was delayed thanks to the snow storm of last week (insert monotone semi annoyed tone here). I was thankful to be stuck in the sun for one more day though. We enjoyed a relaxing day at the beach.
tt5Moving on to the furniture friends. My friends Jen and Steve had a friend who wanted to get rid of this dresser and asked me if I would be interested in it.

grey dresser before

I love how large it is with that big beautiful mirror and the marble tops on the two little drawers. It just needed some love… love, I knew I could give it. :)

We painted it using Benjamin Moore’s Dragon’s Breath. If you would like to see how we paint furniture, check out our How To Paint Furniture post. It needed new hardware desperately. I also distressed it lightly to give it an aged feel.
3-34 3-35 3-36 3-40And once again… one of my favorite parts about this piece is IT’s FOR SALE! Check out our Furniture For Sale page to see if it’s still available (if you don’t see it there, it’s not), measurements and pricing.

Happy funcycling friends!
