Sick of peeling off wallpaper? Try this!

Hi Friends!

Do you have any childhood memories where you spent your Saturday’s pealing off old wallpaper? Remember that smell of vinager and water in a spray bottle, the little round tool that would scrape up the paper to let the vinegar and water solution soak in, and then the hours and hours and hours of pealing, scraping, and more pealing??? Well… me, too! That was many of my memories as a kid and I swore to myself that I would NEVER wallpaper a room in a house when I grew up. Never ever. No matter what.

Thankfully, I’ve learned there are some tricky ways around pealing old wallpaper off the wall. Plus, wallpaper has come a long way (a much less messy job to install).

This process isn’t something everyone would pick, but it really looks amazing in our foyer and saved us a SO MUCH time.

Here’s the foyer on the day we purchased our Repurposed Idea House:

If you have any pealing paper or damaged walls, fill it with spackle, sand it smooth, and clean it well before applying the wallpaper or vinyl to the walls.

We added 4′ plastic panels on the bottom half of the wall over top of the wallpaper and added wood strips between them to create board and batten with a top wood chair rail. Just used a little adhesive and a nail gun to hold them onto the wall with the boards supporting it.

We waited to install the chair rail until after we installed the wallpaper.

This wallpaper is a peal and stick wallpaper so it’s mess free to install and easy to remove if you change your mind. You can purchase it here:

We painted the boards and vinyl Simply White by Benjamin Moore.

John built this hallway bench out of an old 1800’s bed and I couldn’t love it more!

This vanity was my grandmothers and I painted it mustard.

My very favorite part of the design was this stair runner! The DIY for that will be in another post soon, but take a look at how beautiful it is!

Do you know how hard it is to find a pretty stair runner? Really hard! :)
