In today’s Tuesday’s Treasure, I want to help guide you through one of the biggest design trends we are seeing right now: Adding Color to your Home! Certainly, incorporating color into our homes is not a new idea, but embracing this idea can be overwhelming. First, let’s get one thing straight…I am not really an advocate for embracing a trend just because it is a trend! Trends should never define nor dictate who we are as people! But also please don’t mistake me, I am also not suggesting that trends are bad and you should avoid them. I see a lot of positives when we take time to evaluate trends. Trends can help shape new parts of ourselves and give us a push to think outside of our comfort zones. In a sense, trends can be viewed as opportunities to grow!
Okay, well now that I have waxed philosophic (I think that’s how the expression goes!), let’s get back down to it. Today, we’ll tackle incorporating color into your home! You may have seen on my social media channels (and perhaps others) that adding color to your home is currently on trend. Beyond shades of blue which delightfully have had staying power since the beginning of 2024, we are seeing this color trend is not limited to just one hue. From deep and moody earth tones to bright and bold greens and corals to calming and rich blues, the gambit is full! I also think that we will continue to see this trend stick around for a while, so go ahead- get bold and try out something new!
Here are some colors I would like to suggest:
You might not know, but my go to paint is Benjamin Moore. I love the quality of the paint but I also love the color options that have been added to their repertoire over the years-such longevity! Here are three options that hit three trends happening now:
Benjamin Moore Regent Green for deep, monochromatic designs
Benjamin Moore Blue Nova (actually the color of the year) in keeping with the blue palette popping up everywhere
Benjamin Moore Dark Salmon to add bright coral tones for a 2024 beachy vibe
Here are some ways to incorporate this:
Painting Walls
Featured here is Benjamin Moore’s Regent Green. I think what works really well with this a deep, moody color is to go ahead and paint your trim the exact same color as the walls. Notice the richness and depth that is created with this!
Furniture that is tired and already searching for a new lease on life is just asking to be painted! Why not consider selecting a bold color to add bright and maybe even surprising moments sure to bring a smile to your face every time you look at it! These are some of our past furniture flip projects and can be a source of inspiration to you!
Adding Pattern
One great way of adding color is by adding a colorful area rug to your room. Similar to adding or changing throw pillows, selecting a rug with a multicolor pattern keeps your design changeable. I have selected a couple for inspiration for you. Large geometric shapes in complementary colors will serve as a statement piece, so when making this type of choice for your room, make sure you the other patterns and colors you choose serve to complement the rug, not take away from it.
A second rug option for inspiration is this braided rug. What works well when adding color is that the background of the rug is actually just a neutral tone but it has bold colors woven throughout. Even though this rug has several colors represented here, the pattern is subtle and it will allow for other colors and patterns to take the focus if you decide you want to add even more color into your room!
Here is how I have incorporated color into my designs:
Mixing bold patterns that share a color palette.
In one of our Airbnb designs, we chose this gorgeous wallpaper as our feature and then selected subtle patterns to support and reinforce the statement of the room! If you want to see the whole story of this Airbnb transformation in downtown Schenectady, click here.
Adding rich tile for a kitchen backsplash.
In another Airbnb design, we selected turquoise blue as a theme color throughout the space. This photo features the geometric tile in a rich palette of turquoise and aquas to add depth and character to the kitchen area. I love how the pattern and color create the illusion of waves, making something so bold feel really organic! For the full transformation of this Schenectady, NY Airbnb, click here.
Swapping the white backdrop for my art gallery for a deep and moody wall painted black.
Ahh…I love this wall! It holds some of my most treasured vintage art which serves as the backdrop for our living room! Oh, and a bonus, here, I have my turquoise sectional–love it! But for now, I want to focus on the moody black wall. Although the white certainly works, making the change to black elevates the look and feel of this room! When given the chance to add a dark moody color into your home, I say go for it!
I hope that you have found some inspiration in how to add color into your home! If you take the time to really consider some of these suggestions, I think you will find a good jumping point! Of course, if you aren’t sure where to begin, I would love to help you!

How’s your week going? We’ve been dealing with some health issues on the home front, but doing well other than that. My son, Josh, and I were able to go on a day trip to NYC on Saturday and do all the things he loves. Lego store, Nintendo store, eat lots of pizza and Chick-fil-A, and we even went to a musical.
For this week’s makeover, I wanted to share a few bedroom designs that I did for the lake house that I’ve been working on for 2 years. Each room was a blank slate when I started so there isn’t much of a “before” to show you, but here are the afters for you:
Bedroom 1Bedroom 1Bedroom 1
My favorite part of bedroom 1 is the headboard, it hangs on the wall so it would work with any platform bed you have. I love the mix of leather and fabric.
Bedroom 2
This bedroom was designed to be monochromatic. It will eventually have a large wall of bunkbeds on the wall to the back of me in this photo.
Bedroom 3Bedroom 3
This bedroom was actually made out of a storage closet. We opened up one of the walls with a French door that looks out to the lake, added a tiny closet, and made this into one of my favorite tiny spots in the house.
Bedroom 4
This room is so comfy, relaxed and sophisticated. We repurposed a headboard that came with the house, then used linens, beautiful end stands with gold accents, and light gray walls.
Bedroom 5Bedroom 5
Doesn’t this last one look just like it should be in a lake house magazine? I love the artwork, the mossy accent wall, and the bed. We also opened up the window facing the lake so when you’re in bed, you can lay and look at that beautiful view!

How are you? I hope you had a nice weekend and were able to take some time to think about the sacrifice so many have made for our freedom. Such a humbling, overwhelming thought. I’m more than grateful for the freedoms we enjoy… that were anything but free.
On another note, I wanted to give huge thanks to Melissa Schuman from the The Record for the beautiful write up she did on FunCycled yesterday. Check it out online or if you have the paper from yesterday, we’re on the front cover. Yay! We feel so blessed to be doing what we love every day. A huge thanks to each of you for making it possible! 💕
For this week’s makeover, I wanted to share an ornate buffet makeover that we recently redid and is available on our shop page.
Here’s the buffet before:
I loved the ornate detailing of this piece so I wanted to keep the color fun, bright and let the glazing cause all of the detail to pop. For this piece, we used a turquoise color from the Chroma Paint line that you actually can’t get anymore.
If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. Ready for the after photos?

How was your long weekend? Here in upstate New York, it was sunny and stunning! We spent almost all of Saturday trying to finish up the living room and start working on the kitchen in our repurposed idea house. Sadly, we didn’t get to finish the living room, but hopefully one more day will do the trick! Little details can take longer than you’d expect! :) We did get to have a group of friends over on Sunday for a bonfire which was really fun!
For this week’s makeover, I wanted to show you a beautiful buffet that we added a pop of color to! Here it is before:
We painted the outside with the line of paint that we cary in our store – Recolor Chroma Color Paint in mustard, glazed it, and sprayed it with a protective clear coat. If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. Ready for the after???

How are you? I hope you had a great weekend! We were busy, busy! We even did a pop up shop with a bunch of other downtown Troy shop owners at Colonie Center this weekend. A big welcome to all of you who are stopping by the blog after meeting us for the first time at that event.
Here we were… all set up!
For this week’s furniture makeover, I wanted to show you how we redid the vanity that was for sale at the show. Now…. this isn’t everyone’s style but it’s a hand painted finish that I have been studying for years now and really love the look of. It’s more like using furniture as a canvas instead of a typical paint job. You may even like the vanity more in its original state:
Let me start by sharing the quotes from my children when they saw me working on it!
“It looks like someone got shot and the blood is dripping down the dresser” -Harmony
“No, it looks like someone blended up rotten food and strawberries and dumped it all over it!” -Josh
“No, no! It looks like strawberry juice and bird poop dumped all over it.” -Harmony
Wow guys! Thanks so much! lol Good thing I really liked it otherwise my feelings might have been hurt!
This finish was actually really tricky… I blended Grand Hotel Flower Red and Mohair Blue paint that we sell in our store. It’s RePurpose Chroma Color paints that don’t require sanding or priming before you paint. I did a drippy, distressed finish. Then sprayed everything with a protective clear coat and added new hardware of course! Ready for the after?

I can’t wait to share this transformation with you!! It combines my favorite colors and favorite new fabric.
Here’s the secretary desk before we got started!
It’s not that this piece was in bad condition, it was just that it had an outdated look. I wanted to take people’s breath away when they opened the front.

Wait for it…. OPEN!
We painted the outside with Valspar’s Lincoln Cottage Black and the interior with Repurpose Recolor paint in Mohair Blue. You can purchase Repurpse Paint from our store any time! If you want to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. After we painted both pieces, we lightly distressed them and put protective clear coat over the top.

Can you believe school is starting in two weeks? For many of you, it’s already started. I can’t believe summer break is almost over. This summer has not been what I expected it to be, but I not saying that in a bad way. I didn’t expect the store to be as busy as it was. We made it through and I’ve learned so much for next year. I’ve learned how to manage a busy work schedule. I’ve learned how to say no… if you know me at all you know how hard that is for me. At the same time, I’ve missed my kids. Next summer I’ll definitely get some extra help so I can be with them more. I’ve missed my friends because almost every night I worked after the kids went to bed until midnight. I say all that to say anything worth doing is worth growing through. If it doesn’t challenge you, it probably won’t change you. A friend said the other day that my life is a vacation. In some ways it was a compliment and also showed me that I’m faking it well to her apparently. At least she knows I enjoy my work. I’m doing what I love every day, but my life is DEFINITELY not a vacation. Running a business like this requires so very many hours, hot days, heavy lifting, and taxes. So much taxes. lol
Someone also asked me the other day how I did everything I do. How do I balance work and family and church and friends? I replied with this…
Thanks to the Lord who really did give me His strength on days that seemed too short for the to do lists, when the nights seemed to end too quickly and the morning came too soon. He lifted me up and He will continue.
So I say thank you for the yesterdays and for what tomorrows He may give me. If you feel this way, too, lean heavily into Him. Ask for His strength. Read the Bible for encouragement. Be part of a church family who will lift you up and love on you like no one ever has. He is faithful.
Oh and some exciting news!! As of this week we will be a Repurpose Repaint Retailer. It’s a DIY water based paint (not chalk paint) that doesn’t require sanding. It’s a perfect option for you DIYers out there that love to get your hands dirty and are ok with brushed finish.
As for the makeover today, I wanted to share this hutch transformation. If you liked our Rustic Chic Dresser Set, you will probably like this hutch transformation, too!
Before:
We removed the fancy details on each drawer and the inside frame on the doors. That gave us the depth we would need to add wood to the front.
Once we did that, we used aged wood so it had a naturally gray finish. I didn’t stain or do anything to the color of the wood. Just stained the side where the cuts were to make it match the original gray color of the wood. If you end up trying a project like this, you have to be very careful to keep the wood exactly the right size so it sits perfectly on the drawer.
We painted the box Simply White by Benjamin Moore. If you’d like to see how we paint furniture, check out our How to Paint Furniture post. Ready for the afters?
A quick Before and After pic for Pinterest:
This hutch is for sale right now! We just brought it into the store last week. If you’d like to purchase it, please use our Contact Us form or stop by our store at 272 River Street, Troy, NY.
Mark your calendars! This Friday Night is Troy Night Out and we will be open from 12-8pm. We would love for you to stop by to see all the new pieces, paint line and of course home decor! All on street and garage parking is free after 5pm so it’s a perfect date night, girls night out, or heck a night out by yourself. You won’t be able to NOT have a fun time. :)
